Although technically, it was a year on August 29th that I had my AVR surgery, the surgery was scheduled on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, so I'm a little sentimental today.

Last Labor Day weekend while friends and (some) family were grilling burgers and enjoying a long relaxing weekend, I was recovering from AVR surgery. I remember waking about 4PM that Friday afternoon choking on the breathing tube. The next three days were literally baby steps out of the hospital bed and back home.

A few weeks later, I discovered this wonderful corner of the internet as I was home and performing a lot of self-induced research on AVR. Becuase it was only 4 weeks from diagnosis to surgery things had happened very fast and it was nice to slow down and put things in perspective. That is where you kind folks came in....

So as I ponder my one-year "symbolic" anniversary, I want to thank all of you, especially Ross, for your kind words, encouragement, information and overall "just being there".

I don't post as often as I used to, however I do hit the site a few days per week to welcome new members and to catch up on what's going on with everyone else.

God Bless and have a great (and safe) holiday weekend!!!! :)

Congratulations, Allen, on your one-year anniversary! I've found each of my anniversaries to be very significant in one way or another. I hope you have a much more enjoyable Labor Day weekend this year.

Grill some burgers and enjoy a wonderful weekend. Congratulations on your one year and all the blessings it brings.

Congratulations! I know what you mean about relating an event to its relative position to a floating holiday. My oldest son was born the morning after Thanksgiving so that day brings back more memories than the actual date of his birth. My youngest son got married on Easter Sunday and has really had to work to remember the date of his anniversary since he always equates it with Easter.

I'm glad you are doing well and hope it continues for many many more years.
