I'm sticking my neck out here and posting my Kentucky Derby picks:

Win: Bandini

Place: Greeley's Galaxy

Show: Bellamy Road

I'd really like to see Greeley's Galaxy pull it off, but may not outlast Bandini.

Of course, the favorite is Bellamy Road. If he's truly the fastest horse today and holds off the closers, then he may win.

Not a big horse racing fan. This is TOTALLY an amateur's guess.

I know this is SO small talk, but it only happens once a year. Anyone else watch the Kentucky Derby? My wife absolutely adores horses and is pretty good at picking them. She hasn't taken a good look at them yet. We always do that together the morning of the derby, except for this year. She went to the governor's derby breakfast this morning along with thousands of others. Not me. I drank my Starbuck's coffee and read about the horses. So, we'll go over them again, so she can pick her winner.

I don't get into horse racing, but I pick the winner. This way, I'm guaranteed to win right? :D

Horse races

Hello Wise, my father in law in Scotland has always liked putting a bet on horses and he gets lucky at times. He even sent us some money once! Pounds are welcome in a country with weak curency! LOL!!
Débora :D

Amateur here as well. I pick simply based on what the horses look like :D

I really liked Bandini's appearance, so I am with Wise on Bandini to win.

I also like Wilko and the 6 horse who I never seemed to be able to find the name.

So - Bandini to win
Wilko second
#6 in third.

Oh well - Glad I didn't have money on it.

Giacamo - WOW - he really deserved it. I have not seen a horse come out of nowhere like that for some time. How exciting.

Hubby and I were trying to find it on T.V. and missed it..I have always had a Mint Julep on Derby Day.. :D Went to check on my mint a few days ago..and Hubby had dug it up.. Just a few teeny. tiny sprigs coming up...... I watched a live T.V. show this morning where a guy was making Mint Juleps....Take a glass..put crushed mint and powered sugar in bottom..Add Kentucky bourban..then, crushed ice..more bourban and a straw..You must drink them from a straw to get the flavor way down... :D they were drinking them at 9:30 a.m. I love going to the Lexington Horse Farm..They even have an R.V. park..You can see many retirees there..with their little goats for companions. :D and a horse from every country in the world. Great place to visit...Bonnie

Hey, Wise, a tad off topic here, but I was reading in the paper about Smarty Jones' posh retirement pad in Midway and how tour groups come through there periodically. My son and I are coming over May 26th for his fiddle lesson, and I was wondering if you knew how to get signed up to tour those stables. Just curious. I'd love to see him sometime.

Hey sherry, I might be able to help!!

Congratulations Hayden Johnson!

Mr. and Mrs Hayden Johson

During the April 30 Horse Industry Appreciation Day at the Lexington Legends game, Hayden Johnson, a real estate agent and auctioneer from Lebanon, won a one-year, 10 percent ownership in former Gov. Brereton Jones' and wife Libby Jones' Devine Afternoon, a 2 year-old thoroughbred racehorse

Sherry, I'm glad Hayden could help because I don't have a clue. Wish I could help. I'd love to see Smarty Jones. I have excuse if I don't because I'm about 6 miles from Midway.

Other than that...told you all I'm an amateur. Giacomo was certainly a surprise, but as Gina said he deserved it. I was particularly glad for Mike Smith to finally get a win at the Kentucky Derby.

Debora, I'll have to ask your inside connection the next time if he knows anything about the derby.

Ann. The Kentucky Horse Park is wonderful isn't it. We've gone there for a dog show before as well.

Ross. Not much of a gambler here, but love to pick a winner. So, we didn't lose our shirt today. Whew!
