Not sure if this is the best forum, but we'll see.
I'm two years post-op, all that's going swimmingly.
Saw my GP this morning for a review of a blood test I had last week which was testing for allergic reaction (couldn't find anything). Full blood work showed increased creatinine levels (kidney function). Apparently these levels have been rising over several years. This test showed 100 (healthy range is 45 to 85 for women). GP said that kidney function can be impaired as a result of chronic heart conditions and meds. WHY hasn't any doctor ever mentioned this to me in 40-plus years of heart issues?
So I'm off to see a renal specialist.
Anybody had any experience with this?:confused2:

Do you get results of all lab work? If not, you should. My PCP emails me lab results and I keep them in an e-file, then provide my cardio a copy when I go for my annual visit.
Your doctor should be delving into WHY your creatinine levels are increasing, and work on getting it down. You may consider getting a referral to a nephrologist.

I am truly sorry to hear about your elevated creatinine levels. Heart and kidney issues often go hand in hand; 10 years ago at age 40 was when I first discovered I had both a leaky bicuspid valve and kidney disease. Find yourself a good Nephrologist who will be most helpful in treating it and hopefully getting the levels back down. Kidney disease, and its causes are sometimes hard to diagnose. They never gave me a "reason" for my elevated creatinine/hematuria. I'm just glad they found it, cause the meds I've used for high blood pressure all these years have also benefited my kindeys. Now that I've had my AVR sugery just over two weeks ago, my kindneys are being monitored pretty closely. I've never had a big problem with them over the years, and I sure hope you don't, either!
