Any Derby picks anyone? I haven't a real good look at them. I like, at this point, Sweenorthernsaint and Showing Up. Lawyer Ron is a Kentucky horse I think. Barbaro is the favorite last I checked. Pretty good field this year they say. I'll pick Sweenorthernsaint right now as the winner. May change my mind. We place a bet with a local pub here, but nothing big time, so either way we won't lose much. Have a good derby day!

Never got into horse races, don't know exactly why. Maybe that's a good thing?

We're really into horse racing for one day a year. Guess which one. I didn't get into this either until I was 18 and moved here and started going to derby parties. I gets a little contagious. I'm not much of a gambler or a drinker, so I just enjoy the horses. We catch the Belmont and Preakness usually, but the Derby is a given; it's Kentucky ya know.

Knowing your penchant for all things bikini, the derby wouldn't work for you. Even if any of the women wore bikinis, they'd have a hat on big enough to overshadow it. ;)

Wise. I LOVE the Kentucky Derby. I should probably put that onto the list of places I want to go that is going in another thread. And I don't particularly like horses, persoanally......but the colors and pomp and circumstance of this event has always captured my attention. And the horses are gorgeous! Just magnificent!!

I would have completely forgotten about it, so off kilter am I still from the surgery (lose a week.......weird). So Thank you so much for mentioning it!!

And I never got around to thanking you for that Einstein link and that amazing bird! I've sent the link to so many people who have throroughly enjoyed it. And, no, I'm not particularly a bird person, either!!

You are keeping me dialed in, Wise!! Thanks!!

I still get so homesick on this day every year. I was born and raised in Louisville, and when they play and sing My Old Kentucky Home, I'm sitting here crying like a baby. My parents (ages 84 and 85) still live in Louisville (pronounced Loo-vul for those raised there) as well as most of my family. I was home the week after Easter. My husband and I went to the Derby two years in a row while we were college students, and we were in the infield. What a party! Those were the good ole' days! Of course, we're too old for the infield crowd now. My dad told me his picks for the Derby today, but can't remember who he bet on. It's definitely an event that everyone should try to go to at least once. LINDA SUE (now if that's not a good old Kentucky girl's name, I don't know what is. And my parents still use BOTH names when speaking to me!

About to run

About to run

Will start the thread and finish when it's over. LOL...BARBARO..Bonnie

Well, Cindy picked the winner this year. She only bet $2.00, so she won $14.20. It was a beautiful day for the derby. Barbaro looked good and best of luck to him if they race him for the triple crown. We're so full of food we're waddling.

We "play" bet each year at a derby party. I bet my "$100" on Barbaro and thus "won" $715. I am sure Barbaro wouldn't have won if I had been betting real money.
Great race.
