Justin has a weird thing on the top of his sternal scar, he thought it was a pimple, but last night it got pretty big about 1/2 inch by 1/4 and looks nasty, blackish, had some fluid in it (that is leaking this morning) we have calls into his surgeon and cardiologist ect please keep him in your prayers it is something easy and no biggie. it HAS been over 2 years since his last surgery and sternal infection, but it is definately odd and Justin likes to make me stress and get old :)

Oh geeze, that doesn't sound good ... I hope it's nothing serious! Sending hugs & prayers out for you & Justin. Make sure to post an update after you know what's going on.

Lyn, it may just be an old suture that never dissolved. Hoping it's not a biggie and can be taken care of easily.

Lyn, check with your doctor. One of my friends was telling me she'd had a struggle with MRSA a few months ago; and what you described sounds somewhat like the way she described her manifestation. Hoping everything will be fine for your son.

Duh, sorry, you called your doctors. Best wishes.

Lyn,
Will keep Justin in my prayers. But I whole heartly agree that you need to keep on top of this. That pimple description is exactly how the MRSA in my husband's foot manifests itself every year to year and half. They keep trying to kill the stupid germ but so far no luck. I shall keep you in my prayers and thoughts.

Thanks everyone, we are going to CHOP (ooops childrens philly) around 1, so the surgeon/fellows can check it out (they are in surgery) Hopefully it is nothing or an old stitch, which normally wouldn't have me nervous, but last time we took him in for the not dissolving stitch, less than 24 hour later he was in surgery for a massive infection, had his muscle moved and 6 weeks of antibiotics, but that was 10 days after surgery in 07. So I figure all the prayers the better.
BTW what else stinks is we FINALLY got a call for the H1N1 vaccine , he was supposed to get it this morning, but they said not to get it, because if he has an reaction/fever/sick tomorrow they won't know if it is because of his vaccine or "thing"
I'll update as soon as I know something

Lily, my oldest son (age 42) recently had a MRSA infection on the back of his neck. It started as what looked like an irritated hair follicle but enlarged rapidly and he got really sick with it. He is fine now but it took a couple of surgical procedures and several antibiotics to cure it.

Lyn, it sounds like you are getting a jump on whatever it is good and early. You and Justin are in my heart & prayers.

I'm glad your son is okay Betty. My friend's spot began either on her abdomen or her torso, and it quickly grew and turned black, she said. But antibiotics took care of it for her.

Checking back in to see how Justin is doing. . .

Boy...these kids with CHD keep us on our toes, don't they? I sure hope that it's a minor issue that can be resolved easily. Best Wishes Lynn and Justin!

Update

Thanks everyone, Justin likes to be a challange sooo
We are finally home after seeing, surgery Pa (useless) ct fellow, ct surgery attending, plastic surgery attending, it iS his sternal infection /osteomyelitis, BACK, yes he needs surgery. He is home on bactrim (unless the cultures show he needs something else) and letting it drain then surgery/debridment, remove the couple wires he still has and ....another muscle flap, hopefully they can use more of his right pec (they used that last time) or else they will need to use his left pec, they aren't sure if they will have to go under his sternum until they are in there. Surery will probably in 2 weeks give or take, they have to schedual both ct surgery and plastic surgeryto be in the OR at the same time. they'll call us with the date, IF he gets any worse, starts fever ect we have to go imediately to the ER. so he had surgery 05,07(twice) and almost made it thru 09 surgery free but darn.

Lyn, I'm so sorry to hear this. I know he hates having to have surgery again, especially at this time of year. I hope that they are able to go in and quickly get everything and get it fixed this time. Please keep us posted and know that you are both in my thoughts.
