I was wondering what people's thoughts were on learning to read music online, and learning to play a keyboard from an online source...I am trying to learn how to play a keyboard since I have no other musical talent, and I was hoping someone might have some ideas....I can't afford lessons, so I thought I would try this....Harrybaby:confused: :D

Hi Harry. I think it's a lovely idea. I don't think you need private lessons while you are exploring your potential and interest. I think eventually, you might want some instruction to learn the little nuances of sounds and rhythm you are producing. But to start out....I think it 's a great idea.

Do you have a keyboard, or is it simulated online?

There's a lot to learn......might as well start somewhere! Good for you!!

My son has learned alot of guitar online and tell you what, he's beginning to sound band worthy! Why not try? Hurts nothing and can be relaxing.

Part of the problem is that I started to learn how to play the trombone in Junior High and I developed asthma so I had to give it up, not to mention the fact that my learning curve changed when I found that my music teacher liked to beat up his students:eek:  !!!! I have a Casio Keyboard, and I thought that by learning, it might help the ulner nerve in my right arm....Let's Party!! LOL:D Thanks for the encouragement:D :D :D Harrybaby:D

With dealing with all the garbage that I have been these past few weeks, and now with having to deal with the fact that my grandmother is slipping away faster and faster, I need an outlet to try and keep my mind off of things too much, and I am hoping this does it. Is it Chris that plays? I am wondering, because I wonder if it to helps him keep his mind off of the accident and all..?? Thanks for your encouragement...Harrybaby:D :D :D

No sorry, it's my oldest Jeremiah. He's self taught himself alot and he's getting very good. No Eddy Van Halen as of yet, but he's getting Jimmy Page and some others down pretty good.

If you love music, have a good ear, you will do just fine. Go for it, Harry. Besides learning something new, it's great to have a mental exercise as an extra benefit.

It is amazing.......

It is amazing.......

I can recognize terrific music when I hear it, but when it comes to writing/reading music or instrument playing, I haven't been able to do it....one way or another I will learn....:D :D :D :D :D Harrybaby:D

Learning to play a musical instrument is a great outlet to get your mind off of other things. I play several instruments by ear. The last couple of years I've been exploring some specfic techniques through software lessons and it seems to work even though I've never had any formal musical training. Also, my daughter has been taking guitar lessons by DVD. I don't think learning on-line would be different from using software or DVD so I'm sure it's worthwhile giving it a shot. Go for it!!!
