Look who came walking in my door today! My son's best friend since pre-school arrived home on leave today. Scott's Mom was so sweet to bring him by before he even went home. Lots of tears. I think I hugged him for 5 minutes. It's cloudy and gray here today and Scooter said he was so happy to not see the sun for once.

Karlynn:

How wonderful that he thought so much of you that he stopped by to visit you before he even went home!!!

There was a serviceman on our flight to Denver last month. The flight attendant announced he was on his way home to see his family, hadn't been home in X months, and would we all just wait until he got off before we rushed toward the exit door? Everyone applauded and cheered the young man.

Cool Beans Karlynn!!!

Cool Beans Karlynn!!!

Hope you enjoy your time with scooter-which I might add is Bandit's middle name-LOL If you can, could you please tell Scooter I hope he stays safe and that he has done a wonderful job for this country? I don't get the chance to be able to tell soldiers that, so I figured you might pass it along to him? Anyway, I am thrilled for ya'll. Take Care, Harrybaby666 :D :D :D

What a ray of sunshine on a gloomy, wet day. Hug him for all of us Karlynn.

Such a happy day for you all. Gray skies can't outshadow smiles like these.

So excited and happy for you and Scooter. I hope he had a good trip home as I have heard it is quite a long, and exhausting trip and he stopped to see you on the way home. What an honor.

I hope you all enjoy this special time together.

Oh, Karlynn, what a neat story and picture. Thanks so much for sharing and give my very best to Scooter and his family.

Bless all our men and women in the Armed Forces.

I second Harrybaby!!! A special thanks to him and all his loved ones for their service to my family. What a gorgeous and happy smile he has!!!

Spent last evening with Scooter and passed along your thanks and wishes. Can't believe the muscles on the boy. He was always such a long, skinny kid. Our son is coming home on Friday to spend some time with him. I'm sure that's when the craziness will start. Those boys have always kept me laughing.

I like catwoman's post: No matter how one feels about the current unpleasantness in the Iraq, it's important to show appreciation and support to folks in the military.

A bit of an aside: It still surprises me when I see military folks in BDU's (i.e. fatigues): I was in the Army during the 'Nam, and you couldn't wear a casual uniform, fatigues, off base.

Living somewhat near Great Lakes Naval Station - we'd often see military guys in their uniforms when off base - so it must be a rule that's been done away with since your service time. I do know that Scott flew military flights most of the way home with no lay-overs, just fuel stops, so that was why he was still in his BDU's in the pick - he hadn't gone home yet. Last night he was in t-shirt and sweats and won't be putting on any uniform until he leaves the 28th.

Clouds would be nice for him, no doubt about it

I saw a high of 122 degrees in the paper the other day for Baghdad! Ouch!

I wonder how they handle the heat and sand storms. Our support group makes and sends cooling scarves to wear around their necks. My son says it helps quite a bit. Even flying in the helios is like pointing a hairdryer on high in your face.

Karlynn, maybe you could PM Scott's address in Iraq and I will put him on the care packages list. The care packages they are sending out weigh 45# and have quite an assortment of things,

Donna
