Joe had his first testing with the new pulmonary hypertension specialist.

He had a pulmonary function test and a 6 minute walk test.

The tech was mentioning that the last time a pulmonary function test was done, he had been in the hospital 2 days. This was at the beginning of his month long hospital stay a little over a year ago. At that time he was close to death from several severe problems, cardiac, pulmonary and systemic. The tech in looking at the notes, said that his breathing was so bad they couldn't even measure it because he couldn't do the test, couldn't even attempt a walking test and at that time he was a very, very ill man.

Today he was able to move right along and complete the walking test and was able to complete the breathing test. He'll probably still have some pulmonary problems because he's had 2 lung surgeries, but he is SO much better and SO much healthier than last year at this time. At home he can do a mile on the treadmill without any problem.

It really is quite amazing, and quite emotional for me. How close he came, and how far he's come.

Nancy,

So many of my friends have expressed something like admiration to me for "pulling through" OHS so well and quickly. But I know better... from my time here on VR I've "met" people like your Joe, Ross, Gina, etc. who have had so many problems and multiple surgeries. I feel like a piker.

Congratulations to Joe for doing so well in the face of so much adversity; congratulations to you for being such a good caregiver to him!

And thanks for the wealth of knowledge and experience you birng to VR and share with such compassion.

Bless you both.

That is such great news, Nancy. I know now why you and Joe live one day at a time (and very well I may add) - you both are an inspiration to me. Life can be wonderful no matter what our problems are.

Best wishes to Joe and to you! May his health continue to improve steadily and next time on the treadmill he may be running!! :)

Give that man a hug for me will ya? I cannot even begin to tell you what your tenacity and his rebounds have meant to me. Heck if I could, I'd give you and Joe a hug together. Your both quite a team. :)

Congrats to Joe (and to you). I got goosebumps reading how far he has come in the last year -- and his success on the treadmill. You must be a very happy wife.

WAY TO GO, JOE! (And Nancy, too, of course.)

Nancy, I'm forever encouraged by your ability to deal with adversities that would probably overcome others. That you and Joe continue to enjoy life is truly a wonderful thing.

Thank you for all the knowledge you so freely share -- both the technical and the "life experiences" that make it so much easier for us to understand what we are going through.

Many happy returns to you both!
