I brought Joe to the ER last evening. He has had lots of difficulty breathing and was having a queasy stomach and diarrhea. Last week, he had an occult blood test which showed all three as positive for blood in the stool. His stools are black. And his hematologist has had a devil of a time trying to keep his crit up. He's had a couple of transfusions within the past month or so.

Well, there is suspicion of an upper GI bleed. His stomach is rigid, and possibly pressing on his lungs, diaphragm and stomach. His crit is low and dropped 5 points between last night and today. So he'll get two units of blood, and then will no doubt be upper-scoped to find out what is going on.

I honestly think this has been going on for a while. These symptoms have been apparent in the past. The other hospital he went to saw things in a different light, and he had other more dire issues at the time, so this was possibly missed. But it came to a head last night.

I will know more when all the testing is complete, but it all makes perfect sense to me.

This is the local hospital he's at now. I am very impressed with the care. I'm posting some positive things (Heart Talk) that have happened that will be of interest to all here.

I'll keep you posted.

Oh I'm so sorry to hear Joe has more problems Nancy. I hope they manage to get to the bottom of this now and Joe can get back home with you very soon!!!

Love and hugs

I saw the title of the thread and my heart sunk a bit. Sorry to hear he is having to battle it out once more. You have my prayers.

So sorry to hear that Joe is in the hospital again, but glad to read your other post about the positive care he is getting. Will keep you both in our prayers, Nancy!

Nancy,

Nancy,

My first thought was "oh pooh" when I saw that Joe was in the hospital again. I'm sorry that he is having to go through another bump in the road. I hope the docs will get everything checked, found out and then under control.

You are BOTH in my thoughts and prayers.

Christina L

Nancy, please give Joe hugs from us. You both just keep on keepin on and we so admire you. You have prayers from me. So sorry that your 2006 is starting out this way, but at least he's in a local hospital where it will be easier for you to get there - in all this weather. Take care of yourself. And keep us posted when you can.

Carolyn, Nancy's the mother of the site. She is so wise.

Nancy,
I'm so sorry to hear Joe is having troubles. I'll be thinking of you over the next few days - hopefully they'll be able to figure out what is going on and you'll be home in no time! Take care, Kate

Well, Christina--

Your first thought was pretty much on target, since one of his symptoms was diarrhea. So sorry, my Irish humor just couldn't resist. Gallows humor, ya know!:p

Good grief Nancy. How much can the two of you take? Is he feeling any better?

My first thought is that since he had that recent infarct to the eye, could he have had another to the kidney, spleen or liver? I am sure they will find out quickly. We will be praying. - Marybeth

Prayers for you and joe

Prayers for you and joe

Nancy,
I am so sorry to hear your news. You are so kind and try to encourage everybody. I hope all these prayers going your way will bring improvement for Joe.

I don't think this is an infarction. He is definitely bleeding from somewhere. He's lost a lot of blood and is getting two units right now. The dark stools seem to indicate an upper GI bleed. He did have a small ulcer many years ago, perhaps he has another.

Nancy,
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they find the source of the bleed quickly and stop it in record time.

Best of luck to Joe; hope this isn't a long stay and that he doesn't have discomfort. I'm sure you're getting pretty tired of this song!
