uh, what's hockey? We don't have it where I live. No ice.

There are lots of hockey teams in Florida. There are the two NHL teams the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning. There are also a lot Minor league teams in the various leagues around. The ECHL has three Florida teams.

Hockey is a very under-rated sport. People think it's just too violent. But for those of us who watch it, we know it's not that bad. The NHL doesn't have that many fights. They also don't usually allow them to go too far. The most fights occur in the minors where the players are trying to get noticed and make a name for themselves. In the college games, as least in the games at our university, they are not allowed to fight. Same goes for the high school and younger games. The sport does not promote the fighting but for those who don't watch the game it is the only part they can remember. Hockey is a high speed sport that you really need to be into to enjoy. They don't have the constant stopping that you find so much in football. The puck is also small and hard for a lot of people to keep track of.

Just my two cents worth. As you all can see from my avatar, I am a hockey fanatic and take the sport very seriously. Sorry if my excitement or defense of the sport offends anyone. I am just very protective of the things I love.

I am just teasing. My dear Joe used to watch hockey all the time. We also watched football, basketball, horse racing, anything else that was sports, except car racing - which has become our nation's most watched sport. Daughter and I only watch the Super Bowl now. HAVE to watch that one!

The area where I live is pure bubba and they really don't know anything about hockey, tho. Tampa, Miami and most of our large Florida cities are peopled with far more sophisticated folks than we are, who enjoy much more than we have available in our little bitty country town, and they have the big national teams in all sports. I miss that sometimes, but surely like the quiet and peace of the country.

GO FALCONS!

Around our house it is mostly hockey and football. I am the hockey nut and Jeff is a football nut. I like football, too but I LOVE hockey!! I don't watch much football anymore, as Jeff likes to get totally into the game and yell at the tv. He is better than he used to be so it is more tollerable now. I like watching games but don't live by the schedule. Hockey, on the other hand, rules!! I set my schedule around the Red Wings schedule. Gotta watch my Wings!!
Jeff will occationally watch a game or part of a game but he can't watch it several times a week like I can. He gets into the playoffs but not the other games, unless it is a big rival game like the Avalanche and the Wings!! Pam where are you, by the way?

Sorry for rambling, I am just so excited to have hockey coming back!!

Just North of Wayne. :)

I am reading a book by Katzenbach (Hart's War). The setting is a WWII German prison camp where British and Americans are prisoners of war. The American, Hart, talks about baseball. The British officers can't understand baseball - and hockey! Is it so that Britain did not/does not have hockey? I had never heard of this before! Only Canada and the U.S.? Course that was eons ago and maybe it's changed now.

Not sure about Britain but I know they have it in Russia. It was debated where hockey originated. The Russians say they invented it and the Canadians say they did. I did a paper on hockey when I was in college. I learned a lot of very intresting things that I didnt' know before. I also read a lot of stories about the early days of the Stanley Cup and things that happened to it when variouse teams had it. Never a dull momemt!! :D

Well Hockey may be coming back but with all the changes I am not sure if it will still be as good.

What is up with the Wings putting McCarty on waivers? GRRRRRRRRR
What's a grind line without the original grinder????!!!

I hate the salary cap already!!!

Jeff is a real estate appraiser and has done work in that area.

Pretty sure I saw you and Jeff, walking in downtown BG some time after his surgery. Would have said hello, but didn't want to startle you so soon after his surgery. He looked great!
