Had cath yesterday and was pretty sore afterwards but today is much better. They had to apply pressure for 20 minutes because they could not put in a plug, and I had to lay on my back for 6hrs. An 11hr day altogether. The procedure went well and there were no blockages, Thank God. Appt. on the 30th to set up Surgery and possibly talk to Surgeon. Still trying to sike my self up for it all.

Blake,
You have a major hurdle crossed on your road to wellness. Sorry to hear the plug didn't work. I still remember the enormous back ache I got from laying on my back for 6 hours. It wasn't fun.

Hey Blake
I laid there for 6 hours as well. No TV no Radio nothing. It was terriable. I had a bruise the size of my open hand that was real ugly but it went away quick I was also sore for a week.

Blake,

Be sure to ask for a CD of your angiography. You can pop it in your computer and watch the valves in action, and see the guide wire being snaked right into your heart - it's way cool!

Good Luck Blake

Good Luck Blake

Hi Blake,
Lying still for 6 hours does drive you crazy, but I guess it is better than bleeding out.........

Where are you in Oklahoma? I lived in OKC for 8 years and was very well taken care of at OMH. There are many great cardilolgists and surgeons there.
Keep strong,
fdeg

thanks for your replys

thanks for your replys

I didn't get a big bruise like everyone else, but I am extremely sore when I sit to long or walk to long. But I think it is because I have cough variant asthma and I cough constantly all the time and I can feel pressure down there when I cough. So I will probably be sore for a while.

Fdegranville : I live in Midwest City, Oklahoma, but I go to what used to be OMH and is now OU Medical Center and so is Presbyterian. They are all one Unit now. They say there are great cardiologist here. I will be strong. Thanks.

Hi Blake...
Just keep a positive atitude and trust in God. All will go well. As a note for after surgery - when you get into rehab, get some oversized Hawaiian shirts...They are very easy to get in and out of cuz you do not want to wear a pull over for a while and also they have that big pocket which is perfect to put the heart monitor in. When my bride said she would get them for me, I thought she was wasting money but wow they were worth it.
The surgery will be fine and you will do great

Good morning Blake,
Who do you see there? I saw a few drs. there, but the one I saw the most was Dwight Reynolds, my former husband is a doctor there too.

raverlaw?? I like your sense of humour!!

I had one done 15 years ago when my cardio thought i should get a new valve (we didnt replace the valve then...)

I still remember the feeling when the tip entered my heart: I felt it so "real", i started seeing "stars" & my heart rate droped to about 30 ==> they had to boost me with some adrenalin IV in order to get me back..
and then feeling as hewithdrew it.. another shotof adrenalin

fdefranville: My cardiologist is Chekuri and I believe my Surgeon will be Dr. Peyton. I don't know if Reynolds is still here. Who is your former husband?

Hi Blake -

They didn't want to put a plug in after my last angiogram because they said that my surgery was imminent and evidently you don't want a plug in then. I don't understand the whole thing but that's what they told my husband and I. I had the AVR a week and a half later.

While I was lying there after the angiogram, with the enormous weight on the femoral artery, (for about 8 hours I think) I was ravenous and having a caffiene headache (from not having any) and kept thinking about the Starbucks that I saw around the corner from the hospital so I sent my husband up and he brought back some little cookie things and a cup of coffee which I gobble and slurped. A little while later and WOW did I get sick :( ! I started throwing up and my bladder was FULL so that leaked and then they sent this enormous (not fat, just enormous) MALE nurse in to change me and my sheets, and I still had to lay there with the weight on my leg. THAT WAS AWFUL AND HORRIBLY EMBARASSING -- NO DIGNITY WHATSOEVER!!!

It's funny now but it was so frustrating then that I started bawling.

Ah, the joys of hospitalization. They kept me all night too. But they set a bed up for my husband in my room so that made everything better :) . ~Susan
