Sunny

Hello everyone. I've only posted a couple of threads since I joined this site, but I've lurked around plenty. I am going to have my aortic valve replaced on the 29th of July. Since I scheduled the sugery a month ago, my life has been a lot better.
I guess I didn't post too many questions because I found that if I looked around enough I would find answers to questions I haven't even thought of yet. I will post a personal story soon.
I want to thank all of you guys, and Hank for starting this site it has helped me through a really tough time in my life.

Hi, Sunny

Hi, Sunny

Glad to have you jump in. And you'll be on the downhill slope just a week from today! I'm sure it makes you want to barf, but it's so good to get it over with.

Enjoy this week - buy yourself some treats (nice lounge clothes for post-surgery, books, puzzles, things you like to do); have really nice meals, see a couple of movies. You won't feel up to doing much for a while, so you can easily justify the extra expense.

I considered, and didn't do it, having a cleaning service for a couple of months after surgery. In retrospect, I should have.

My mom's name is Sunshine. Is that your full name? Or is this your nom de type?

Sunny why for did you lurk so much? I'm sure there are still questions running through your mind. If you think of any, speak up, that's why this site exists. ;)

Hi Sunny

Hi Sunny

Good luck to you on your upcoming surgery.
I also had mine on July 29th in 1996.
Certainly hope you will be where I am seven years from now because it has been really great!

Hi Sunny!

Hi Sunny!

Thanks for joining in! Knowing when your date is really does help. I went 5 years before my surgery, and being told was a release.

Don't worry about posting things that aren't of any real substance. Ross doesn't worry about it, why should you...:D :D

We'll be looking for you on the other side...

Welcome!!

Welcome!!

Sunny,

I sure hope you will start joining in more often. I was also able to get all of answers from the past posts. I still go back and read older ones and do searches for specific questions.

Here's wishing a smooth sail over the mountain!

It's amazing how much better you feel shortly after surgery. I am doing things I haven't done in years.

Again Welcome and take care,

Thanks for the words of encouragement. The day after my surgery can't get here fast enough. I really had a hard time deciding which valve. I finally told my surgeon that I wanted a bioprosthetic valve, so him and I chose the Medtronics Mosaic. He said it should last me 8-10 years, after that, I think the mechanical valve will replace that one. After I decided on the bioprosthetic valve I knew I'd need another operation in the future. This got me to wonder if this choice was senseless and selfish or if it was a right. I have my reasons for it. What do you think? Anyway my operation will be at Overlake Hosp. in Bellevue Wa. just east of Seattle. Waiting for the mt. pass -Sunny
ps. Sunny is just nickname.

Sunny,
I understand Overlake is a great hospital. I had my surgeries done at the UWMC. but I ended up in Overlake before my surgery. I was taken to their E.R. one day after chest pains.
Good luck with your surgery and after a couple months of post-op you will feel much better.

Hi Sunny,

Welcome to this site and thank-you for posting. I wish you the very best with your surgery and my prayers go with you.

That day will be over before you know it. Please let us know how you do as soon as you are up to it.

Sunny - Good luck with the surgery. I will be on vacation next week, but will remember you and say a prayer on the 29th.

Sunny,

Just had CE Bovine Aortic valve popped in on 7/02/03.

1) There are no senseless valve choice decisions. All choices are valid.

2) This is your life. If there is ever a solely personal, justifiably selfish decision you will make in this lifetime, this is it. You and only you will have to live, 24/7 with it.

3) This should not be a pressure decision. Take a quiet moment and place yourself post-op with your valve choice. What fits your life the best ?

4) Settle the choice in your mind. Build a positive, strong mental attitude re the operation. Totally embrace this life-saving procedure and go for it. Focus on the future and enjoy.

Hi Sunny

just wanted to say hi and welcome,

I found VR.com just before my surgery and the support i recieved was fantastic,

As Ross said post any questions you have,

Don't be shy you are among friends and we will all be thinking of you as you climb the mountain

keep smiling

Sunny,
Ross is right you should not just lurk around here just jump in with everybody else and talk bout what is on your mind. Questions are never dumb or pointless if they help you understand your condition or anything else that you might want to know.

Hi Sunny,

I was an extensive lurker, too, before I jumped in a little. I will be thinking of you next week and can't wait to hear from you after. My prayers go with you.

Tomorrow . . .

Tomorrow . . .

Sunny, all our cyber hugs and real prayers will be winging their way to you tomorrow. Most likely a good deal of the worst is now over; once they give you that first (as Bonnie would say) feel good hypo, it becomes a job. It's tough and really unfamiliar, but you will have so many good folks at the hospital to help you and you'll know that we're all there with you that you'll do fine.

Just remember when you're cognizant enough - the more you use the spirometer in the hospital (and after you get home) the better you'll be. You CAN'T use it too much; and you'll be SO much better off for it.

Best of luck tomorrow, see you on the other side of the mountain (oh - watch out for the truck).

Sunny,

Thanks for posting and we all wish you well tomorrow. You will be in our prayers.

I had my valve replaced almost a year ago and I am doing quite well. I must tell you that the advice I reveived at this site really helped me recover quickly, so stay tuned, ask lots of questions and listen to the experts, like Ross and others on the subject.

All the best

Walter

Sunny-
