My AVR was done on November 30, 2000 and I just received my echocardiogram report and yearly checkup.
All is working fine, the report indicates ?Normally functioning bioprosthesis aortic valve, LV function preserved with EF=60%", and I hope that this valve will keep on working for many more years.
This is my second AVR, the first one was done in May 1983 using porcine valve, it work perfectly for 17.5 years, eventually got worn out and started leaking. My present valve is also a porcine valve and I will be very happy if it lasts as long as the previous one.
I am living a normal life with porcine valves for more then 20 years and I am very grateful that the medical science for development in this field and giving me a chance to live a normal life.
