Jack

My AVR was done on November 30, 2000 and I just received my echocardiogram report and yearly checkup. This is the first time that the echocardiogram technician measured only the Left Atrium and Aortic Valve, it must be a new cost saving program and I should pay him only 25% of the bill.

All is working fine, the report indicates ?Normally functioning aortic valve prosthesis, LV function preserved with EF=55%", and I hope that this valve will keep on working for many more years.

This is my second AVR, the first one was done in May 1983 using porcine valve, it work perfectly for 17.5 years, eventually got worn out and started leaking. My present valve is also a porcine valve and I will be very happy if it lasts as long as the previous one.

I am living a normal life with porcine valves for more then 21 years and I am very grateful that the medical science for development in this field and giving me a chance to live a normal life.

Congratulations Jack. 17 years is a long life for a porcine valve - you were being watched over by someone.
I wish you 20 years from this one.
Smiles, :)

I'm glad you're having that chance, too.

Looks like our new porcines have a tough act to follow. I've only got eight months on mine. Four years is a good start, though.

Best wishes,

Congratulations, Jack!

Congratulations, Jack!

It is always so encouraging to hear long time success stories from fellow valvers. I got my homograft in 2000 -- January. I am doing great so far. Just have a mild blood pressure problem during the school year, but this is my last year...retiring in June! Yes! BP does fine in summer and on long weekends or vacations.

Anyway congratulations and continued luck!
