Some of you may have heard about the latest school shooting this week, here in MN. It was at a high school in Cold Spring MN called Rocori. My parents live in Cold Spring, and my youngest sister graduated from there.

A freshman boy brought a handgun to school, and shot another freshman, (critically wounding him), and a senior, who later died at the hospital.

This happened on Wednesday, and I didn't think about it when I first heard the news, but my niece's oldest daughter attends that school. I talked to my sister Wed night, and she said her daugher, (Jackie) called her screaming hysterically that there had been a shooting at Tiffany's school. My sister, (Laurie), drove to Cold Spring as fast as she could get there, and she and Jackie stood in a field with other parents/grandparents, waiting for word on who the two students were that had been shot. Eventually, they were told that the parents of the two students had been notified, so if you hadn't heard anything, it wasn't your child.

Ironically, my niece and her family don't even live in the Cold Spring school district, but she drives the kids across the line, so they can go there. She thought the schools would be safer than the St. Cloud schools, since Cold Spring is a very small town, and Rocori is made up of students from 3 small towns, Rockville, Cold Spring, and Richmond.

There are a couple of other ironies here, the first rescue squad member on the scene that day, just happened to be the father of the boy that eventually died.... can you imagine? (the other boy is still in critical condition). Also, the boy that did this evil deed, is the son of a county deputy! It makes one wonder where he got the gun....

They don't know exactly what motivated this boy to do such an awful thing, but the story is that he was teased quite a bit about his acne problem.

It really can happen anywhere !

Yes it can. I could open up a terrible can of worms about what may have been going on in that kids mind, but it would really upset a lot of people, so I'm not going to go there.

I think we are only seeing the beginnings of what can happen. That's what scares me!

There was an article in our newspaper just this morning that one of the local highschools had an incident which suspended school for a while. This is a very upscale school.

One 17 year old boy sent another a threat in email form. He was arrested and it hasn't developed into anything, thank God.

So, it can happen anywhere.

Nancy, I guess there were some rumors going around the school 2 weeks before, that something like this was going to happen. The school had even been interviewing students trying to get to the source, but were unable to before it was too late.

Everyone, please tell your children/grandchildren how important it is to tell someone in authority if they hear rumors like this, or as Nancy said, if they get an email or any such thing. The boy that did this had also sent emails to a couple of friends the night before, and although they were a little strange, they didn't give them any clue about what he was going to do in this case.

It seems to me, that when someone is considering doing something like this, they might hint to friends about it, perhaps hoping subconciously that someone will stop them before it's too late.
