Not that this answers your question, but are you related to pavr in pittsburgh? I don't know off the top of my head, which hospitals from Canada are taking part in the trials, did you check the list of locations at the clinical trial site? If I find anything I'll let you know

Like Bina, I don't know the status in Canada, wether they are JUST for candiadtes for the trials or if they were approved for more people. the hospitals you asked about are listed as part of the PARTNER trials, but it says not recruiting after their names, so I don't know what that means. (ALL the US hospitals listed say they are recruiting still)

... the Ottawa Heart Institute does a lot of the research studies and then they are also afiliated eith other hospitals such as Londom Health sciences and McMaster in Hamilton......I was part of a couple of studies by Ottawa the last being the "RAFT"study on ICDs ..... I was implanted in London and Monitored at St Marys Cardiac centre (regional cardiac unit for SW Ontario) but the whole study was Ottawa Heart institute as it is one of the largest in Canada, Montreal also has a heart institute but I notice that you are posting "not for myself but for a friend",,,where does that friend reside as my health team is so involved in reasearch I would offer any help I can PM me and I can give more contact info.

Lyn,
In Canada, clinical trials of the Medtronic CoreValve Aortic Valve Prosthesis is ongoing, but not recruiting patients. Here are the Cardiac Centres participating:
Clinical Evaluation of Percutaneous Implantation of the Medtronic CoreValve Aortic Valve Prosthesis (18Fr-Study)

University of Ottawa Heart Institute
Ottawa, Canada

University of Alberta Hospital
Edmonton, Canada

Institut de Cardiologie de Montreal
Montreal, Canada

CoreValve registries impress at one and two years as randomized trial announced; pacemaker use scrutinized
June 1, 2010 | Shelley Wood

Paris, France - New registry data from operators using the CoreValve device for transcatheter aortic-valve implantations (TAVI) support the medium-term safety and efficacy of this fully percutaneous valve but have also refocused attention on the wide-ranging rates of pacemaker implantation by different centers using this device.

At last week's EuroPCR 2010 meeting, investigators from countries outside the US presented new outcome data for the self-expanding CoreValve, which is implanted transfemorally in the vast majority of cases (there is a small but growing number of patients treated with this device via a subclavian route.)

Registry results came on the heels of an announcement during the EuroPCR opening sessions of a large European, multicenter, randomized clinical trial comparing the CoreValve with surgical aortic replacement. The trial, to be called SURTAVI, is still in the planning phases but, pending regulatory blessings, is expected to start enrolling before the end of the year.

According to a press statement from CoreValve manufacturer Medtronic, the device, which is not approved—and, indeed, not even being studied—in the US, has been used in more than 10 000 patients in 32 countries and is the transfemoral valve of choice—used in three out of four transarterial valve-replacement procedures.

Very exciting times indeed! Unfortunately, I do not know offhand the Canadian site for clinical trials. If I have any luck finding it, I will be sure to let you know. :) Thanks for all the great information.
