I'll pose my question than give explantion after =is my swelling of large toe area due to INR too high? reason why I say this is because my large toe and the side of it has been so sore i can barely move it and from my past im not sure if that is from internal bleeding in tissue or muscles thats what usually happens its sore then brusing shows up so far no brusing as accured..also I feel achey alot too someone give me some comment please my INR =5.0 DR told me to use 3migs each day then come to him next week for testing for fingers only. I was taking 3 migs prior to that and it went high he still said take 3 whats up with him iill wait for answer thanks chris

Hi Chris, As I don't have a good answer to your question I hope Al sees this and may be able to give you more information.

But my first thought is that perhaps you ought to ask your doctor about your toe.....perhaps she or he could give you more information.

Are you able to ask for another INR test and not wait until next week for the finger stick test? If you can, that would be a good idea.

Hope everything turns out OK.

Chris:

I have had several instances of injuring one side of a foot -- occurred 3 times in 2 months' time. The outer edge of my foot swelled up so much that it threw my balance off trying to walk normally. There was a lot of bruising on the bottom of my foot. No pain, though. I went to my family doctor the 2nd or 3rd time this occurred; he thought perhaps I had broken a bone & ordered X-rays. Nothing was detected. Just something weird!
This was at least 1 year ago. I haven't had a recurrence.

No reports of coumadin causing toe pain. Have worked on probably well over a million toes over the years (wow, I never thought of it like that  ), and never encountered coumadin related pain in the big toe. Had a few cases of circulation problems in the little toe, but that's a different thing. If it were an internal bleed to the severity to cause pain and swelling like that, it would have the toe very bruised looking. If it's by the toenail area, I'd suspect an ingrown toenail or such. If it's at the joint area, gout is a very common problem, especially in folks on multiple heart meds.

Hello!

Jeff suggested what I was thinking....gout.

My husband did get :"blue toe syndrome" twice. But, I do not think it was as painfull as you are talking about. Plus it was most, if not all of his toes, both feet.
