What's an interventional cardiologist? This new cardio I'm supposed to see next week has a specialty in "interventional cardiology." What do interventional cardiologists do? Is that good or bad if you're dealing with valve problems, or should I care?

I intend to ask him exactly what sorts of cardiology problems he normally deals with, but if anybody knows anything about this specialty, I'd appreciate the info.

Is it the same as "invasive cardiology"? The cardiologist who did my cardiac cath back in December was described as an "invasive cardiologist."

You pretty much have it there Marge. Doctors who can do stents, balloon angioplasty and other proceedures through the catheter are interventional physicians.
