Interesting: sternum cords, not wires

Seems like this is a product that should already be out there as wires are so very primative.

Hope they get things approved quickly and, hopefully, I will never benefit from this improvement.;) :D ;)

Marsha, thanks.

I often refer to mine as "laces" (not sure why). I've been having trouble with them as I raise my swimming and cycling intensity. I'm guessing that the metal doesn't allow the sternum bones to flex as they want to. Not terribly painful, but painful nonetheless.

Also interesting was the comment about "provoking the immume system". Crohn's is a disease that involves auto immune malfunction. Make me wonder. Probably no connection, but worth asking the GE next time.

Marsha,

Thanks for this very interesting post.

Maybe my view is warped but I confess to a certain fondness for the stainless steel wiring. And I trust it more than something that dissolves.

Besides, I enjoy telling people that I am "wired," or when I am truly ebullient, that I am a "man of steel." :D

Very interesting, Marsha. Thanks. I wonder what options there are already on the market, because I do not have metal....I have Dacron thread! Now my curiosity is sufficiently piqued so I will work on getting a copy of my post surgical xray. I guess it would reveal....well,.....nothing!! Does plastic show up on xray?

Has anyone else had their sternum stitched up with something other than metal??

Thanks to JoeCool, at least I know that Dacron is really really strong stuff!

Marguerite
