Since I'm relatively new here, I'm not sure if anyone gets online newsletters from heartcenteronline.com or not, but they have some really intersting articles on different heart related subjects and studies. I noticed one today about a study that was published on June 2 in the New England Journal of Medicine on how genetic variation affects Warfarin. Of course, it's not the whole article but just a blip about it. Thought someone might be interested in it. I'm going to try to find the June 2 issue and read the entire article on this study. There is also a site on heartcenteronline.com called the "heart valve center" which also has some good info. Linda

Yeap. There are already 2 posts on it. Seems like in incredible waste of time and money if you ask me.

Heartcenteronline is a great source of information. It has all kinds of information on heart related issues as well as other health problems. I have looked up articles on diabetes there also. Good stuff for anyone here. Try it.

From the perspective of coming up with a cost-effective means of determining Warfarin dosage, yep, agree with you.

From the broader perspective of an initial study of using genetic info to determine dosage of drugs - i.e. from the perpective of pure research rather than applied research - this could be the beginning of some very good stuff. I used to work in psych, and determining the appropriate dosage of psych meds is often very very expensive trial-and-error (because the person is stuck in the hospital until they quit nutting up).

But if only because of the dietary variables, I don't think it's ever going to work as a way of determining appropraite Warfarin dosage. But I don't think that was really the purpose of the study - at least not from what I heard on NPR.
