Just spoke to Medibank private and they have said that they don't cover home testing equipment.

Went to the store to get the advertising brochure and they do cover blood glucose home testing and there is a section that reads....."other medical equipment including prosthetics". I'd assume that other medical equipment would include an inr tester...

I'm going to call the helpline tomorrow to start an apeals process but want to know how anyone else went with this.

The reason i ask is that i go back to work in 3ish weeks and i have the money to just buy one myself...i don't want to bang my head against the wall if people rarely succeed.

Regards.

You should appeal it as much as possible. I had 2 insurance companies turn me down initially and reverse their decisions upon appeal. I switched jobs before the first company had to buy the machine which is why another got involved but there was no problem.

However, the company I have now is balking a bit on paying for test strips but I am fighting since they cover durable medical equipment which is what the strips are covered under.

Best of luck to you.

Just got the initial kickback from medibank so am apealing.

Aparantly although i have the top cover i don't qualify as i don't have a 'packages' option...

I'm going to buy one anyway myself and then just wait see if the apeal gives me a cheque further down the line....i'm already tired of the lab draw's.

At least my inr seems very stable....

The APPEAL Process is usually the Best Route to take in getting coverage for something new.

Once I found someone in my Insurance Providers network who knew what Anti-coagulation was, she guided me through the process, had my request presented for review, and I was approved which broke the logjam for everyone else IN MY STATE.

It can be a lengthy process, but is probably worth the effort because you will be needing Testing Supplies for the rest of your life.

GOOD LUCK Mate!
