Had my protime this morning and it is running 1.9. Haven't been so low for 6 mos. Clinic said that everyone seemed to be running low this time. Could be the weather. Have not changed anything in the last couple of months except the antibiotics for the cellulitis. She said that it would thin the blood. These INR are such a pain sometimes.

Uh-h-h--

If everyone who is being tested at that lab is lower, makes one wonder if there isn't something wrong at the lab.....

If I were you I would speak to them about getting retested-- like tomorrow.

When is your next test? Try to eek..dosage 10 % a week. Example..If you are taking 30 mg... a week..try to add 3 mg..to it..by eeking a little everyday...Maybe Al can help a little? Bonnie

You are better off with a high INR than a low one, do what Granbonny says.

I have been running a bit low this winter. My case is.... increased activity and exercise.

Hope you get everything under control soon.

Yeah ummm... If everyone's testing low at this clinic maybe it's their lab???

I get mine checked through a local hospital's lab. They're pretty good and very friendly.

You might consider getting an order from your doctor and cross checking the INR at another lab someplace, maybe a hospital.

If the lab has noticed this, they should be having their equipment checked on their own. I would not trust them, if they can't figure that out on their own.

I am tested here in Peru and the report is sent to a coumadin clinic 60 miles away who call me with any changes. I am supposed to be between 2 and 3. I think most of their patients are in the Peoria area and not here so I don't think it is a lab problem. I think most of it was from running with my Mom who had a stroke 3 weeks ago. A lot more moving around taking care of her. I think for my own peace of mind, I will get retested next week. Thanks to all,

Because of the tissue valve, I was only on Coumadin for three months but my husband and I were completely exasperated with the incompetencies (or whatever) we saw with the labs! There was also a power struggle between my local primary physician and the cardiology office (over two hours away) as to who would monitor and treat it. And the local nurse would say, yes she knew how important it was to get the results immediately, but one week I waited four days for results (and I called them repeatedly to chase down the results!). More than half the time my INR was plus or minus 1.5 when it was supposed to be 2.5-3. Finally the local doctor said that if I wanted the cardiologist to monitor it I would have to drive to a further town to the nearest hospital lab to get it tested. My veins are tiny and deep also so getting poked repeatedly was unpleasant and the hospital lab would leave huge knots in my inner elbow area and then blow up veins on the top of my hand. Plus, early on, there was the one quart a day of fluid situation...trying to get blood out of a dried up raisin...

AM I WHINING?!?! (sorry - I know these are things you've all been through)

If and when I end up with a mechanical valve, I hope we can buy the machine and monitor it ourselves!

Thanks for this opportunity to vent, ~Susan

Reading all this really makes me appreciate being able to home test. I am keeping a real close watch on it and am now pretty much staying right where I want to be..........between 3.5 and 4.0.

My dad was on coumadin for the last several years of his life and always tested at the VA hospital in Grand Rapids, Mi. He developed a relationship with his nurses and he was always pleased with how it was handled. With home testing you don't have that but you do have FREEDOM!
