I went to lab after 2 months since last test and INR was 7.1. I was afraid and the doc said if any blood issue come to e.r and hold coumadin for 3 days and eat greenies. I did so. after 3 days it was 2.1. Think antibiotics increased it cause used too much for tonsilitis. was 3 terrible days. this is a real problem to use too much antibiotics but necessary to be protected from endocarditis

I don't know how it is in Turkey, but they should have checked your INR 3 to 5 days after starting the antibiotics and while some countries don't see a need to test INR more then once every 2 months or longer, it's dead WRONG. They should test you at least once a month and more if your out of range one way or the other.

This is exactly why there are Coumadin horror stories.

I agree with you Ross. Testing every two months or longer is just too long. I was upset when the doctor wanted me to wait a month to retest after making a dosage change. Thankfully within the next week I got my home monitor. I couldn't imagine waiting for 2 months to test. It would worry me too much.
