Hi,

I am new to warfarin.I am now 10 weeks post operation. My INR was between 2.5 - 3 for first 6 weeks. Last week when I had my INR test the result was 1.4
so GP increased my dose from 6.5mg to 9mg and now it is come to 2.2.
I just had my blood test today will get my results in by evening hope it is ok.

Its worrying me now how to maintain this INR.
Though my diet was pretty normal not much change i feel why my INR has gone down suddenly.

Have you recently increased your excerise level? What do you consider a normal diet? How about what other meds are you on?

Don't sweat it. It will get there. It's looking like you've increased your activity level and just might be eating better too. It's normal. You may end up at 10 or 11mg a day, but whatever it takes to keep you in range, is the correct amount for you. They seem to be dosing you correctly also, which is a plus considering most places haven't a clue.

Thanks Ross, My INR is 2.2 so they have asked me to take 10mg everyday till this monday and then repeat the blood test.

You are right on the dose it is 10mg.Exercise level .yes i used to go for 1 hr walk from earlier 30 min one and do normal activities as before my operartion. so can say my activity was more. Diet wise no much change but quantity wise a bit more then first few weeks of operation. Thnaks for the post.I am feeling a bit relax now reading your post.

Ross, some more info. on ur question.

What do you consider a normal diet?
Rice,Dal,vegetables (like caulflower,spinach,beans,cabbage),roti or bread,milk,juice etc.

How about what other meds are you on?
I am only on warfarin..no other medicines.

Normal Diet = following the National food guide

Say what? I follow whatever my belly demands. ;)

Just want to be sure your not following some numbskulls advice and avoiding foods with vit k in them. Yes, the myths continue. Eat like you always have and don't worry about the vit k deal. Just don't suddenly eat a bag of spinich or 3 heads of broccoli or something extreme like that and you'll be fine.
