We just got back tonight from a really relaxing week in Cancun. My PCP had lowered my coumadin from 4.0 mg all the way down to 2.5mg after an INR of 5.0 with the instructions to return and retest in 2 weeks which will be one dose before I d/c coumadin prior to surgery. I left to Cancun feeling quite uneasy about the whole thing so after a few days I decided to go ahead and get tested there. The nurse at the resort called the lab and a nurse was sent out to draw my blood (in my room:) ) and then faxed the results to me. No need for doctor's order. The total bill was 150 pesos...less than $15.00. It also was the first time I ever tipped a nurse LOL. My INR was only 1.6 so I upped myself to 3.25mg and will see what happens.
