For goodness sake, just when you think its stable again!

So tonight Chloe tested at 2.0 - did it twice to check it as well. Nothing changed in diet etc, although it is the school holidays so she's probably jumping around more than she would when in school. Other than that shes had a bit of a growth spurt recently so I'm considering the possiblity she may need a dosage increase anyway as her INR has been on the lower side of normal for about 3 weeks anyway.

I gave her 4mg of warfarin straight away instead of her normal 3mg and will probably give her 4mg again tomorrow, then 3mg next day then retest.

Does that sound ok to you, should I give a bit extra warfarin or should I be panicking???

Thankyou

No sweety, if you gave her 4 and she normally takes 3, no.
What is the overall that she takes in 7 days time? Was it 3x7=21mg or what?
What size pills do you have to work with? By my calculations, 3.5mg everday for 7 days if you were doing 3mg everyday before.

She normally has 3mg per day. She only has 1mg tablets so she just swallows all 3 at the same time.

I'll give her 3.5 tomorrow and next day and test then i think. That sound ok??

You'd think I'd be used to this by now wouldnt you - but its rare Clos INR drops - it normally goes too high,

Thankyou so much for the help!!

Growth spurts require larger warfarin doses.

I'd try increasing her warfarin from 21 to 24 mg/wk first. Give her 3 X 1 mg on Su,Tu, Th, Sa and 4 X 1 mg on Mo, We, Fr. Then test again in one week.

Thanks Al and Ross!!! Am going to increase the weekly dosage as you've suggested.
Thinking back, this is exactly what happened last time she had a growth spurt, in fact its the only other time she's dropped low I think, so I'm pretty sure thats whats happening again.

Thankyou again - will let you know what we retest at in a few days/week's time

Growing spurts even require changes for old people except the growing is a little different.:D ;) :D

Sounds like Miss Emma is getting old enough to need higher dose pills. Makes you feel a little older too, eh?????;) ;) ;)

Hope things stabilize soon.

Ok, so I know I shouldnt have retested already but YAY! Shes back up to 3.6. Will now have to watch it doesnt fly up high, but would still much rather that than too low.

Thanks for the advice!!

Since your sweet littel girl has an On-X, I would not worry too much about this D-tour. :)

Best wishes,
