I just tested my INR and I ranged in at 1.9! I have been on 7.5 a day with one day at 10mg. I returned to work 2 weeks ago. My first week was more physical than I was prepared for and the second week was alot longer than expected. I worked 74 hours this week. I didn't want to. :( I returned at year end inventory and my interim manager didn't do much to prepare . . . so I had to crash prepare! I haven't dropped below 2.0 since my surgery and I expected to be a little low like low 2's but not 1.9. What do I do? I took 10mg tonight but what do I do in the mean time? Thanks Seth

Seth,

Although 1.9 is low, it is not so low that I would panic. I would test again tomorrow just to make sure it is not on a downward trend.

I think taking 10mg today was the right thing. I would take another 10 tomorrow. If your INR is below 1.9, I would call your doctor and get some advice. If not, increase your weekly dose by 15% and retest in a week.

However, I am not a medical professional. This is just what I would do.

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for the response. I am pretty concerned. I am not working that same schedule this week. I would think I already bottomed out. Saturday was my last hard day. Monday was pretty easy and tomorrow will be too. I sure don't know what I would do without VR.com. Here's to freakn out:cool:   . So I will retest tomorrow and I am sure I will get a call from the clinic. Thanks again. seth

Going back to work may have also increased your metabolism with the extra physical work. Your Coumadin dose may need to be adjusted upward in slow increments as your body heals more and begins functioning more fully. Recovery takes a year - truthfully. Gina gave good advice. Let us know how it goes. Remember - you had an AVR so you aren't terribly low at 1.9 for an AVR. For me, it would be low, but I still wouldn't panic yet. I've been there before many times - it will come up. It's just as simple as taking more Coumadin.

Seth - No Big deal. 1.9 is a little low and you don't want to stay there. Like BeeGee said, take another 10 tomorrow, wait 3 or 4 days and retest. Don't test too soon. The drug change needs a couple days to work. It will take your INR some time to settle after surgery and remember that these tests have a margin of error.
