Some of you will remember that based on advice given by my surgeon, my INR bounced between 1.9 and 6.6. I switched my anti-coagulation care to my PCP, who actually consults with me on what to do each week.

Before my vacation, my INR was 2.5, a little up from 2.4 the previous week. We agreed to keep me on 5 mg four days a week and 2.5 mg the other three days, which I had recently gone to, to see whether I would stabilize.

I had to skip my usual Monday blood test on the 12th because I was in Virginia. I tested yesterday, the 19th, and my INR was 3.4 - which is right where I'd like to keep it. And this is after ten days on vacation, not eating regularly or my normal diet. The doctor agreed that I should stay on this dose to see what resuming my normal routine does.

I will test again this Friday, since I will be gone again all next week chaperoning my daughter's class visit to Yosemite, but I am expecting a good result.

By the way, today is my 2 month anniversary, so I only have one more month to go before I qualify for home testing! Stay tuned for news of my attempt to get Blue Cross to pay for one. :D

I was working on getting one of these and we too have Blue Cross. They wouldn't give Lance an answer as to if there was coverage or not. They implied that we should purchase it first and then they would decide if it was covered. I think that they think that we were born in a turnip patch. I would purchase it and then they would turn it down. I still might do this by the end of the year for the convenience and accuracy. It has to be saving them money in the long run. Hope it works out for you,
