My INR keeps dropping and I have been increasing my dose of Warfarin. The only changes have been Lyrica, and Keflex. I have an infection in my finger, the reason for the Keflex, I take Lyrica for neuropathy in my feet My INR should be getting higher. I seem to defy all norm.   Awhile ago I kept pretty consistant at 3.0 to 3.5 on 30mg a week. My range is 2.5 - 3.5. Now I am taking 35mg and it is still dropping. 1.7. Can infection affect INR? I have the coumadiin clinic going crazy, they don't know what to do with me. Any suggestions?

Fluctuating INR

Fluctuating INR

Hi Jackie,

I don't know about the effect of meds and infections on your INR level. My INR fluctuates with my activity level. Physical activity increases my metabolic rate and my INR decreases. My INR increases when I'm less active.

I currently take 5mg per day (that's 35mg weekly) and am in the neighborhood of my low range. I'm in summer activity mode which means golf, biking, or sailing daily.

If you are engaging in lots of physical activity, your INR might be affected. If not, it might be a good thing to visit with your cardiologist.

With keflex, it should be rising. Have you ever been tested for the ANTIPHOSPHOLIPID ANTIBODY (HUGHES) SYNDROME?
