I was wondering if any one has noticed an increase or decrease in their INR after going on the tread mill? :)

My INR decreased, and I had to raise my warfarin dose, after I began to exercise regularly. Exercise causes your metabolism to speed up and you process the warfarin more quickly, causing your INR to decrease. If I go for a period of a few weeks when I don't work out, my INR goes up higher. It's just a reminder to me that I need to get back to work! :)

I read your profile and I am wondering..at your age..1 year older than me...Why are you on a threadmill? I see you live in New York...Know the weather can be bad in winter...but..can you just not get out and walk in your area?..I walk my dog every a.m. for 20 minutes..again..around noon for more and after dinner....and active most all during the day..I feel..that's enough exercise for me at our age...( Have an age 13 year old Grandson and 2 new ones from Russia)See my avatar... This exercise keeps me in perfect range for my INR..........Yes, I am overweight ..would love to lose it ..by doing more exercise .but not worth the aches and pains that come with our age... I would rather be a little overweight..but my INR is always in range. Tested today..3.2 and I was worried it may be high..due to heat.spent last weekend camping in motorhome,ect..... Just have to remember to take my warfarin at 5 P.M... or within 3 hours..... My b/p is fine and my heartbeat stays at 70 and below with No meds....Bonnie

Exercise will decrease the INR. Increasing the heart rate pumps the blood through the liver more times. More trips through the liver equals more metabolism. More metabiolism means a lower INR. I have seen several people get their INR down to 1.0 by really kicking up the exercise.

The key with exercise is consistancy. Be consitant everyday on the exercise, like daily. The inr level will level out with consistant exercise. I pretty much walk all the time, even on the weekends. So great that you want to exercise, do it and the heart and lungs will thank you later. When you do not exercise, the inr level dips down, so be consistant. Good luck.

Hi, I go on the treadmill because the drs. said i should. I only go on maybe 2 x a week & I only go 2.4 as the speed. Which is like reg. walking. From the street to my front door I have to climb 32 steps. (House sits up high) thank goodness its a ranch house. My INR is out of range pretty often. It needs to be between 2.5 & 3.5. Test it at home & never know what it will be. LIke a guessing game. Wish I did have grandchildren. Have one daughter 27 no steady guy yet. I do have dogs. They are small & go in the yard & trained to go on a large tray in doors come the winter. What do you mean take your Warfain at 5pm or with in 3 hours. You are lucky your heart beaat stays at 70 with no meds. I have to take digoxin & sotalol. :)

Caroline is absolutely right. Exercise is like spinach salad - of course you can have it, just try to keep the amount pretty consistant. ;)
