Hi,

I am sure this has been covered but here goes. My INR history...May 2.5, June 2.6 and July test 3.1.... I have increased my exercise dramatically and have also been eating a few more salads and some other VK veggies.

How does exercise fit in to the INR picture?

Thanks,

Tom

Exercise should lower your INR because your metabolism will speed up and you'll process Coumadin more quickly. Also, as your body gets back to normal after surgery (the first year) your need for Coumadin will increase as well. The fact that your INR continues to climb a bit is curious, but nothing I would worry about. It's not going up that fast, so your test in a month, if it continues to go higher, shouldn't be all too high.

I'd just eat what you want and do what you want and see what happens.

PS - I should also mention that many of us notice an increase in INR with the summer heat.

Tom:

When you change your eating habits or exercise/activity levels, it's probably a good idea to retest in 1-2 weeks to see how your INR is affected. If you wait 1 month until your next regularly scheduled test, your INR could be too low or too high.
