''Hello''.....I had my INR checked yesterday (have it checked once a month) and the restults today were 5.2. Iv been taking 5/6mg warfarin alternate days. Doc said to take 4/5mg alternate days now. Does that sound ok, and is 5.2 dangerously high ?

Had to increase my betablocker a bit after a night of dancing on the tables '-) Well, the bit about the betablocker is true 8)

Okay, the BB is fine. With INR of 5.2 don't go falling down today. No table dancing. ;)
For myself, I would take a lower dose today, 3 mg, and then proceed with your new dose tomorrow.
So, previously you were taking either 38 or 39 mg per week and you need at least a 15% reduction, or 6mg per week.
What was your last reading, something must have changed, no veggies?

Bina, my last reading was 2.9. The only thing I can think of is that I havent eaten as much ''soy'' this last week or so ? Have probably eaten less food in general. I dont drink alcohol so it has to be diet I guess.

What beta blocker did you start? My dr started me on carvedilol (coreg) low dose to start and everything was fine, no change. When he saw i no adverse effects from the coreg he had me start doubling my dose till I got to 50mg a day. Did an inr 2 weeks later and ithad spiked to 5.9. Finally got it regulated about a week ago.

Cardiologist said it shouldn't have made a difference, while my thoracic surgeon says otherwise...dr and surgeons almost never agree :)

Anyway, everyone reacts differently to med's, just keep your eye on it.

Oh, inr in 5 isn't good but not that bad...it needs to get a bit higher to cause major issues. Unfortunately I know from experience.

Your going to begin to really hate me. :D Or like me?

No interactions were found for the drugs you selected.
You searched for interactions between the following drugs :

Coreg
Coumadin Tablets

My question to you is, what is your weekly dose, how often are you tested, what do they do when your over or under, what other meds, what kind of diet are you eating?

Give me the 411 on you. :D

Heh, it all about the love Ross.

10mg coumadin not warfin daily (had a harder time regulating with warfin)
10mg linsinopril daily
5mg vytorin daily

Avg inr 3.1 for 2 years, checked monthly. Cardiologist monitored.

May this year, intro coreg 12mg daily. Inr has no noticible change.
Increase coreg to 25 then 50 in 3 week time frame. Inr checked 1st week July now 5.9 and spend the next 5 weeks adjusting and testing. Now taking 10mg m-w-f-s, 5 the rest of the time. Inr range 3.2-3.9 considered acceptable by my cardiologist. No change in diet in any way.

Matski, I didnt start a new med, just upped my dose of bb.bisoprolol. Been taking it for about 17 years. Really think it my inr jump was diet related.

Coumadin is the brand name for warfarin sodium. If you're taking Coumadin, you're taking warfarin.

:) This is bound to start another debate.

I've seen the studies...bunches of them over the last 30 years I've been on coumadin. There is no difference between coumadin or its generic equivilant warfarin.

My father was a career military man, and the military hospitals never gave us greif about using the name brand, which is what I took until I moved out and got a real job, insurance and had to start paying for my med's. I tried Warfarin cuz it saved me $30 a month. and for the next 3 months couldn't get it regulated. Dr. switched me back to coumadin and viola, straight as an arrow.

Tried Warfarin again about 5 years ago...same result.

If you look around the forums there have been a number of debates on the topic. Basically it comes down to what your comfortable with. Some people have great results with one, the other or both. My personal experience is the name brand works better for me. No idea why because there shouldnt be a difference, it just does. If I could get away with the generic and save some money trust me I'd love to. But for me, while coumadin and warfarin do the same thing there is a difference.

Nope, we've been there and done that so many times it's not funny. I've taken them all, mixed them, matched em, you name it, same old numbers.

Not a lick of difference except price.

Do you have periods of water gain?
