Location
Northern New Mexico
I have often mentioned, and enclosed picturesw of, Jemez Springs and surrounding areas of Northern New Mexico. This is a link to an article on Jemez Springs that appears in today's New York Times travel section. They got most everything right, except: (sadly) the little water fall at Soda Dam is not warmed by the hot springs at the site. In fact, for most of the year the water is icy cold.

Here is a link to the article:

they basically got it right, but were a bit unclear. the hot water wells up at the dam,
or at least at the same location, then spills into the river. the reader just assumes that
the water at the dam is hot.

used to go up to jemez springs often while living in socorro and albuquerque, but always
frequented the hidden hot springs, away from the tourists and old farts taking photos
of naked college girls.

anyway, i found it amusing that pedophile priests were sent to the servants of the
paraclete for 'treatment,' to a facility less than a mile from a ymca boys camp.

I am hoping you really meant something more like "odd" than amusing. The whole "pedophile priest" thing is indescribably tragic, for all concerned. There is more that could be said, but I find the whole topic very complicated and depressing.

I should have been more clear ... I was referring to the picture .....

um, yeah, you're right, poor choice of words. sad, frustrating, potentially disastrous.

the amusing part was more of how could these people be so stupid, as in not exactly
the best choice of location.

If I could be confident the motivation for this decision was simple stupidity, I would find a degree of comfort. Ponder a moment: A toxic problem, with no effective treatment or protection is deposited in a small village of trusting people with no substantial economic resources, far removed from the public eye-do any reasons besides stupidity come to mind?

I don't want to take this any further than I already have. My real motivation for this post was sharing the good news about a beautiful place I love.

Dennis,
My thoughts exactly.
