Just to let you know I was supposed to be released from cc yesterday morning. In fact the the doctor looked me over and went out to write my release papers. At the same time my heart went into a very rapid heart beat. Like from 70 bpm to 180 bpm.

Well needless to say I had a whole lot of folks rush in to treat the problem. It cost me my release yesterday (actually a good thing) but also got about another 10 holes in me from various IV, shots. etc.

They got it fixed so I'm out of cc today. I have to say until yesterday everything was very minimal. Actually felt really good considering. While I'm ok now, this thing just kicked my azzz a bit. At any rate i'm flying home tomrrow on continental to fll.

Regards

Sorry for the event yesterday but really happy you are out of the hospital and headed home tomorrow. Try not to over stress yourself during travel. Hope you have ordered a wheel chair and will make the passage through the airport and security as easy on yourself as possible.

Please let us know when you are safely in your home.

Oh..... Welcome to this side of the mountain. :)

Bill, I had the same thing with the heart rate.
Mine happened at 4 a.m. while I was sleeping, and they clocked me at 170 bpm.
I was given Sotalol and it stopped.
It scared the heck out of me and thereafter I was on Metoprolol.
You will be fine. The heart likes to show off sometimes. :)

That is very normal after heart surgery, I was at a meeting the other night and a Dr spoke on AFib and he said it was normal, because of the shock to your heart and what it has been through! Glad you we still in the hospital when it happened! I did the same thing about 4 weeks after my surgery, left Christmas Eve day!

Yep, your heart's an over-achiever!;)
I'm glad you've been sprung, but hope you'll let us know when you make it home to Floriday.
There's no place like home!:)

Congrats on your release...lol I too had a bit of a rapid heart rate a couple days after my surgery...but like Bina I was also put on metoprolol. Been fine ever since. Have a good flight, and enjoy the resting!

Bill, I am glad you are ok but sorry about the fast heart rate. That had to be a bit scary for you. Have a safe flight.

Hi Bill,

I hope you have a smooth flight home. The TSA folks in Birmingham, AL airport treated me with kid gloves for my flight home. Assuming you go through the airport in a wheel chair, make sure whoever you pushes you does not go too fast. If you go over one of those cable protectors too fast, it wlll hurt like all heck.

My heart rate also went crazy just a few hours before my release. The was a chance I was going have stay at least one more day. I honestly broke down and cried. I was too emotionally exhausted to have to stay another day. I did go home as scheduled.

All

I thank You so much for your support. I made it home yesterday afternoon with no problems.

Now I just settle in and wait for this thing to heal. Some how I this is probably going to be more difficult than I thought.

They put me on some drugs which are dangerous. Amiodarone and metoprolol, don't know if anyone has had any experience with them?

Regards Bill K.

I'm glad you made it home without any problems. How long are you going to be on the Amiodarone for? It is a nasty drug, if you search here for it you should come up with a few posts about it.

I guessed that they put you on Amiodarone.
That is the SLEDGE HAMMER of Anti-Arrhythmics.

Take a Xanax (is that the anti-anxiety pill?) and then do a Search for Amiodarone to find links to MANY posts about that drug and it's side effects. As long as you are on a moderate dose (200 mg) and don't stay on it too long, it seems to work out OK. I just wish more Doctors would follow the Manufacturers Recommendation to use it as the Drug of LAST Resort instead of their First Choice.

I know, if they put their patients on it, it knocks out whatever arrhythmias they are experiencing and they can send them home. Works for THEM!

You may also want to do a Google, or ask your Pharmacist for their instruction sheet AND the original manufacturers information sheet that comes with each package. Take another Xanax.

Glad to hear that you have made it home safely. I hope your recovery goes okay - remember to take it easy!
I was on Amiodarone for 6 weeks post surgery. It didn't cause me any particular problems, but in saying that, I was glad to get off it. I didn't want to be on lots of meds - I know some people have no choice though.
Anyway, best wishes to you.

ZOB says go home, but of course, due to approaching weather, your flight will be delayed!

No delays, the weather, although a little soupy didn't impact with the early flight. The troops did great, direct, direct, direct =:)
