I live in Denver NC
whatever that is. We're moved in and unpacking boxes a little at a time. I think we will like North Carolina, and I know we won't miss hurricane season in Florida especially after the last two years. I will be calling today to schedule appointments with new docs (internist, cardiologist, and electrophysiologist). I'm a little nervous about that, but I know it will be OK. Our home is in Denver, NC (a suburb of Charlotte). This is the Denver of the east...lots of skiing (of the water type). We sit on Lake Norman. Any of our members in this area? I'm glad to be back online and catching up with everyone here.:D LINDA

Linda,
Water skiing sounds wonderful!
I know you will love your new "home" state.:)

Thanks Ross! That really makes my day!! After having two 100 year old oak trees fall on our house during Jeanne, I was hoping we wouldn't have to experience that again. Not that I'm complaining really. It could have been tons worse. At least we have pine trees in our yard here. Hoping they're a little lighter than oaks. LINDA

Sorry, couldn't myself when you gave getting away from hurricaines as one reason for liking NC. It is beautiful down there. I had hoped to one day see more of the state then what I have, but even what I have, I loved. Post some pics when you get settled in and let me see your area. ;)

Charlotte, N.C. is one of the fastest growing cities in the south.Sits on I-85..and you can go south to the Beaches (Mrytle Beach) in 4 hours..or go North to the ski resorts..( in 4 hours)or you can take ( I-77 out of Charlotte into West Virginia. Beautiful state.( West Virgina)..In other words you are in an ideal location.:) We have stayed in our motorhome on lake Norman.Beautiful lake and away from the hustle and bustle of the city.:) Charlotte does have some pretty good snow in winter.Coming down from the North...Just learn to get that milk and bread when they forecast snow.:D Bonnie

We were so happy when we found out that we were moving to Charlotte for several reasons, but the one that is the best is that we are half way between our twin boys (age 27) in Atlanta and our daughter, son-in-law, and grandbaby in Roanoke. About three hours each way. It is beautiful here. We've lived soooooo many places during our almost 35 years of marriage, and the best thing is all the friends we make along the way. That's priceless!:) LINDA

we'll miss you down here in Fl. We need all the taxpayers we can get.

As for the pines, I have about 4 acres of them - very tall, very old. They sway in hurricane winds, but the oaks break and come up at the roots when they get heavy with water. Some limbs may fall, but smaller ones. Our pines also protect us from tornadoes because the tornado is caught up in the tops of the pines and doesn't get a chance to touch the ground - (MOSTLY, anyhow).

Enjoy your new home. Come back to visit, now hear?

Enjoy your new home. It sounds lovely and NC is a beautiful state.

Ann, I'll be visiting Florida bunches. My sister lives in Pensacola. She's been there for over 30 years (we're originally Kentucky girls). We also have a niece in St. Pete. I know the state of Florida will miss our property taxes, but I can tell you, we won't miss paying them. I know North Carolina has a state income tax, but all the other costs here are so much lower...from home owner's insurance to car insurance to property taxes. We will miss other things about Florida though...the nice warm temperatures in the winter, the close proximity of the ocean and bay, the attractions, and of course all our many friends there. We've lived so many places that I think of all these places as "home". LINDA
