Hi I'm new here it's my first time here and I'm happy to find this forums to find you valves replacement like me i couldn't find any one like me that makes me think nobody did this surgery but me
I had 2 valves replacement aortic and mitral from about 7 years with mechanical valves iwas about 28 years old and I'm now on coumadin and LOPRESOR (metoprolol tartars ) I don't why I'm taking this one but I think it's something related to heart arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat I'm happy to find another heart ticking people did you here the sound of the valves too

Hello there and welcome to the site! There are other members here who have had both their aortic and mitral valves replaced also and they'll probably say hello to you soon.

Regarding noisy valves, I have read that smaller replaced valves can be louder than larger replaced valves. I have a small porcine (pig) valve and it is noisier than the sloshy mess of a deteriorating bicuspid valve that I used to have--but it beats a strong healthy sound now, so that's good. so you did 2 surgeries but my doctor told me before and after the surgery that i dont have to do other sergury or maybe he was liyng to me to make feel good the truth idon't know alot about my new valves but htey told me it's the latest hn the mechanichal valves ididn't whant to know alot of details then i was terrified from the surgery
and about the sound of the valve it's not so loud but if i'm in place without noise or in acar or room the other can hear the sound and in sometime it's louder than other times eg. digesting after activities i think it's normal for any heart

I had both valves replaced also. At Stanford University Medical Center back in June 2006. I can still hear the clicking of the valves. Most of the time it does'nt bother me, it helps me know that they are still ticking. I'm just glad to be ALIVE.....

I've had my mitral valve replaced almost a year ago and the shower is the place where I hear my valve the most - especially when I have my mouth open - no comment please.
I used to like placing magnets on my chest when friends came over. But now that things have heeled up - I can't do that anymore.

Well, my first surgery was on a different part of the aorta but not on the actual aortic valve.

Also, I think your doctor was telling you the truth about you probably not needing more valve surgery because the latest in mechanical valves reportedly should last for decades. Be sure and keep all of your doctor appointments, and blood tests for your Coumadin, and learn all you can about it all, and you and your new valves should do very well!

And, I think that I know what you mean about not wanting to know a lot of details about valves because the whole experience kind of made me feel sick inside to think about it at first also.

hardly notice it anymore,but sure did in the earlier time

Unless something unforseen should happen to the valves, they should last you the rest of your life. There are no guarantees. The valves themselves will never fail, but some have had to be replaced because of sewing cuffs letting loose, infection, blood clot on the valve etc. This is where they would have to be replaced.

welcome Khamis733.....I only had the aortic done. I hear it from time to time but for the most part it is not noticed.....others hear it more than I do.....but then again, years of rock-n-roll have dulled my hearing I am sure

We do have several members who have had both valves replaced without any problem.
Lopresor is a great medication to control the irregular heart beats and keep the blood pressure down.

Even if you didn't want to know much about your situation when you had valve replacement maybe now is the time to start acquiring that knowledge. There is a lot of information on this site that you might be ready to delve into.
