I'm just curious about this, if a person that had a replacement can't take Coumadin (maybe allergic to it), what are the options? Will

We have one member that had problems with intracranial bleeding. She had to have her mechanical valve replaced with a tissue valve.

True allergies to warfarin are extremely rare. Even the dyes used in the tablets can be avoided by using the 10 mg tablets that are dye-free.

The real issue for most people who claim that they cannot take warfarin is that they do not want too. They believe all of the horror stories that took place before 1990 when this drug began to be used properly and ignore the hundreds of success stories on this website.

I've seen some articles from the UK where thye mention "Phenindione" as a seldom used alternative - it sounds more risky.

Would the allergy be to the coumarins themselves or the binding ingredients in the pills?

Some people use low molecular weight heparin injections twice a day for life.
