Prior to my valve replacement I had a life threatening bout of pericarditis which I needed surgery to drain. Long story short after the valve replacement it came back more than the normal amount of pericaditis everyone obtains after open heart surgery. The Dr's placed me back on a mix of colchicine and ibuprofen. After 3 months of being on Ibuprofen the dr had me stop it. Prior to stopping my inr was a little low at 2.4 so they raised my coumadin dose. In between that lab visit I stopped taking Ibuprofen completely. All the sudden my inr is 1.9. I really have not changed anything else diet or exercise wise that i can think of. Could the stoppage of Ibuprofen affect my INR level?

Iv'e always been told by any of my Doc's not to mix ibuprofin

with warfarin it's not a good combination together and have also

been warned it effects warfarin levels of inr,so possibly from what i was

told i would imagine this disturbed tour inl levels.

Someone with more info will eventually fill you in on this, just what i was

told and they avoid giving me ibuprofin for anything, now i'm not

medically inclined to say for sure or not, this is just my experience.

It would be good to check with your Doc if the ibuprofin effects your

warfarin and inr.........I think it will from experience iv'e been told.

You can check this site for interactions: Drug Interactions

IBUPROFEN (in Ibuprofen Capsules) may interact with WARFARIN SODIUM (in Coumadin Tablets)

Blood clotting normally occurs in response to a cut or other types of injuries to protect the body from excessive bleeding. Platelets, a type of cell found in the blood, are involved in helping the blood to clot when it is needed. Ibuprofen may interfere with the platelets' ability to work properly. It may also damage the lining of the stomach, particularly when used for a long period of time, and this may increase the risk of developing a bleeding ulcer. Warfarin is generally used to prevent your blood from "coagulating" or forming blood clots. When ibuprofen and warfarin are used at the same time, your blood may be much less likely to clot and this may increase the risk of excessive bleeding. If it is necessary to use ibuprofen while you are taking warfarin, your doctor may want to monitor you closely for signs of bleeding. Let your doctor know if your bowel movements appear black or tarry, or if you are having any stomach pain. Blood tests can be used to make sure that you are getting the right amount of warfarin. If you are experiencing problems, it may be necessary to adjust the dose of warfarin. Your doctor may also consider stopping therapy with ibuprofen.Discuss this potential interaction with your healthcare provider at your next appointment, or sooner if you think you are having problems.

This interaction is well-documented and is considered major in severity.

Yes I realized the risks and so did my Dr but they believed the benefits outweighed the risks. I know the danger is stomach issues and bleeding more due to ibuprofen. However, my question is if ibuprofen directly affects the inr ratio.

I am really not sure , but my GUESS would be no since ibuprofen affects
platelettes (like asprin) and warfarin(and heparin) affects clotting factors,
and I know that asprin does not affect INR.
