Does anyone know (And sorry if this is a dumb question..) if a person goes to the ER, do you generally try and get ahold of your physician first to see what they say?

Also I just did get of the phone with my family dr. and she wants me to call my cardiologist and talk to him, see if I can get in there sooner. See if he will change meds around or what he wants to do as she isnt sure where to go next. She commented that with this all we are sort of in a bind as when we lower the toprol heart rate gets worse, but when we increase it SOB gets worse and if they can't get me in to see him sooner than give her a call back and comne in to see her and we will try something completely different for treatments. Off to try and call cardio right now. wish me luck. will update again later.

If you go to the ER, you are treated by an emergency physician as he see's fit at the time of presentation. Once he's evaluated you, he may call your physician or simply instruct you to follow up with him.
