Small History background,
As many of you know, I wasn't a typical heart patient. OHS done within 7 days of being told that I needed surgery. Its been a year now with my mechanical Mitral valve and everything is fine.
I last time saw my cardio dude was last September. I told him I felt like I was used as a guinea pig - since this was a teaching hospital. He didn't like that too much. ANYWAYS, I saw him today, told him about some aches and pains, swelling and weight gain. I was told just to give it more time and if it becomes worse give him a call. Valve sounds "very nice - crisp and clear. Visible scar looks good". After a few smiles and laughter he remembered me as the 'guinea pig' it was then I reminded him "that the real problem was that I was NEVER shown any proof - I was just told". He leaves the room and comes back, "come with me, I'll show the proof you want". He takes me down to the OR , thats where is office is. But I saw a few operations going on......cool. And there in his office, he brings up my angiogram on his computer. WOW!!!!!! It was also at this time he told me that my heart wasn't ENLARGED. Nor had it been enlarging for the past 5 to 7 years.....which is what I was told in the ER. BUT my biopsy still showed that I did indeed have rheumatic Fever......but thats a different story.
After a lot of explaining.........the fact that if I didn't have it done I would not be here or have CHF beyond repair. His closing statement made me realize what kind of danger I was in.
Here's the interesting stuff:
Me: Sever Mitral Regurgitation
Cardio Doc said "+4 is as sever as one gets". This came up on the screen - WOW!
In closing, everything went well. Very well.....now that I have actually seen the proof I needed to see to justify the surgery. I was in denial for so long, and maybe part of me still is - BUT NOW I HAVE SEEN THE PROOF.
Hope next year I get the same results as I did today
For those of you waiting and not knowing how sever your regurgitation is....ask, Now that you know +4 is as high as one can go. But maybe.....you already knew this? I just wanted to share this +4 in case no one really knew.
Hope Everyone has a Super Fine Day
