I was wondering if any of the other members here who have CHF as I do, have had trouble with it due to having a cold....I have been sick for the past two days with what I think is a horrible summer cold, but I also feel like I have an elephant sitting on my lungs. I was just curious, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks In Advance...Harrybaby666 There is no Smiley for "Blah" So I will just say it....BLAH...I feel AWEFUL..LOL :( :D :( :( :D

Sorry that you feel bad Harry.
I think you need some chicken soup and some TLC. :)
I don't have any other advice to offer, except maybe you could cut your salt consumption down for a few days? Nancy says that is key to Joe's pulmonary problems.

Well, you know Mary, I don't use the regular salt anyway..I have been using a product called "Jane's Krazy Mixed Up Salt" which uses garlic, onion and other spices to flavor the food...it's excellent on Baked Potatoes with a slab of butter....Thanks for the encouragement
:D

:D :D :D

Geebee, Chicken Soup was just what I had in mind...I figure it must have mystical healing powers somewhere...LOL Thanks for the encouragement. Harrybaby "Blah" :D :D :D :D Blah :D :D :D :D

The trouble with colds is you don't get no respect , , ,

Having had chf prior to surgery (lucky for me that cured it), I know what you're talking about and am entirely sympathetic with how bad you feel. It was a "cold that wouldn't go away" that finally got me to the doctor, who (belatedly) noticed I had a problem. Please take care of yourself and take yourself to the doc if you even suspect it's not going well - lots of stress on your heart.

How about some rum and tea?

Thanks Georgia...

I think that I am going to have to see someone soon about this, as I keep coming down with these "colds" and they are relentless, so I am wondering if it could be indicative of something coming down the road..this ought to be good...thanks for the help Harrybaby666

Harry-

You need to get it checked out. As you know, I'm sure, CHF when it is acting up can make you cough and sometimes it can be a productive cough. And that's not a good sign. You could also have some kind of low grade infection that isn't going away, possibly in your lungs.

So, please call your doc ans have it all checked out. Be safe!

I think I will go to the ER this Morning.

I think I will go to the ER this Morning.

Hi Nancy, Gang,
Just wanted to quickly post and let you all know that I am going over to the ER this morning to get checked out, as I have been up all night. I had to get up at 2:30 this morning and take some pain pills as I got this foot pain around my ankle that was making me feel like I had a sprained ankle, and then after I took the pain pills, I went back to bed and then the pain traveled to the center of my chest and became a real dull ache, which I still have not to mention the shortness of breath and just feeling really lousy (Imagine, all this from a sore throat and cold..) Anyway, I will post as soon as I can and let yall know how things turned out. Talk with you guys later. Harrybaby666

Harry,
Get yourself to the doctors office tommorw morning. You may have brochontiis which builds up the lungs to phnuemonia, as you may know. Please, get this cold checked out, not good to have also fluid in the lungs. Good luck and keep us updated.

Now for the ER Results.

Now for the ER Results.

Hi Gang,
After spending 7 LONNNNG hours in the ER yesterday, it turns out that just have a really bad cold that is bothering the lungs...no bronchitis, no pneumonia, just a cold. I did however, find out that I am again anemic, and have to get back in to see the doc to find out why. Harrybaby666

Harry, it's time to snap out of it!!!! Kick that cold in the hind quarters. So sorry to hear you had to spend that much time in the ER, or spend time in the ER at all. I guess it's a good thing that it's just a cold.

Now as far as Mr. Kaput! He needs to come out of the occupational closet and spill the beans! -- It will make Harry's cold feel so much better. :)

Glad its just a cold. Hope you are feeling better real soon. And take care of that anemia. I wish I could give you some of my blood, I am one of those people with too many of everything in my blood, Platelets, etc. I see a hematologist every 3 to 6 months for blood tests to see if it turns into anything. So far,so good.

I'm so glad that you only have a cold. I pray that you will get feeling much better soon. Hugs & prayers are coming your way.

Harry, Jane's main ingredient is SALT. Its like 90% salt! Try their product "Krazy Mixed up Pepper" It's very similar mix of spices, but NO salt. With CHF, you really want to keep the salt intake down. Glad it was "just" a cold.

Woops!!!

Go figure, something else I cannot have...lol it's funny though, yesterday at the ER they told me that my sodium level was too LOW...so how do you get around that one? LOL

Harry, hope you're feeling better soon. I can't imagine a lousy old cold when you already feel bad.

That is funny about the salt product. Sounds like something I'd do.

I'm taking lisinopril for blood pressure. You're not supposed to use salt substitute with it. We had been using Lite Salt. The pharmacist said that in combination with the lisinopril it could cause you to have too much potassium (but, I think you'd have to consume a good bit of it). Anyway, if you try the pepper product let me know if you like it.

Hi Wise..(And No, I didn't mean High Rise...LOL)

Hi Wise..(And No, I didn't mean High Rise...LOL)

Yikes! I just read that about Diovan (Valsartan) as well...WELL WHOOPS again!!!! Teach me to not read the pamphlets that you get with your meds...Sheesh.. :D :D :D Gee I wonder if this is why my sodium was low, my calcium was low, and my Potassium was low...Well...back to the old Dr. LOL :D :D :D

My guess is that we are both in the same boat when it comes to taking our meds....ALL FOULED UP...LOL Thanks for the support and encouragement from One Dizzy Dude AKA Harrybaby :D :D :D :p :p :p :D :D :D :D

Here's some food for thought, Harry. Joe's sodium has come up low also from time to time. I keep him extremely low sodium, making everything from scratch. Had a lot of discussions with his cardiologist who is a specialist in CHF, about that very issue. He, in turn, discussed it with several of his colleagues (he's head of cardiology, and teaches at medical school). Joe is VERY sensitive to anything with sodium in it.

Joe's sodium has been low when he is in the midst of a CHF episode. His cardiologist feels that the sodium in his blood becomes diluted from the fluid retention, and causes a false reading of low sodium. He has told me to keep it full steam ahead with the low sodium diet.

You might ask your doctor if this could be a possibility in your case as well.

Prior to that I was told to add a slight increase of 2-3 percent in his sodium level when it tested low. It didn't work out at all, he just blew up with fluid. So I do believe what his cardiologist said, that it's a false reading.

But that might not be the case for you, just a talking point.

True low sodium can be a real problem.

Do discuss it with your card., though.

Oh, by the way, Mrs. Dash has come up with some new flavors, and they're really good, mesquite, table sprinkle and some others. They also have 4 new marinades in a bottle. I find them near the steak sauce and ketchup. They're tasty too.

Chef Prudhomme has a terrific no sodium spice mixture. It's right in the spice section. I don't have it in front of me, but I think it's called Magic Seasoning.
