I was wondering if anyone here has ever been told that they have Glaucoma....I went to the eye doctor for my routine diabetic eye check and I was told that my "interocular pressure" in my left eye was high and that they want to test me for Glaucoma...

I am extremely nervous, as I could deal with going deaf, but I don't think I could handle going blind....any one have this and how do you deal with it? Thanks in advance....Harrybaby:cool:

Harry-

Joe developed glaucoma in his blind eye. He was put on several eyedrops which reduced his pressures to normal. Actually some were beta blockers. So there are many things that can be done.

.. one of my friends at school had that sort of problems. She wen t for all kinds of tests . They gave her drops for her eyes and the pressure went down.

Harry, my grandmother had glaucoma before they knew how to catch it early. She didn't go completely blind at all, but the tunnel vision wasn't alot of fun. It sounds like they are catching it nice and early. They will undboubtedly give you drops that you need to take faithfully to decrease the pressure. I think my mother (it is an inherited thing) has some kind now, angle closure or something, anyway, she has had really high blood pressure for a long time whch I believe added to its occurrence in her, and puts her drops in religiously and it's all held in check. She is fine. I have a 55 year old friend who has it. Drops, drops, drops. They make it all fine. Try not to worry about this one. They can keep it mellow!! You should too!!

:D Marguerite

Harry, both my parents had it. They lived and could see into their very old ages. It is/can be inherited and so my eye dr checks my eyes (and my siblings) carefully at each visit. My parents had the drops and were faithful in applying them every day - I think it was morning and night. Mother eventually had a complication in one of her eyes but there was a surgery that corrected. There are so many advances in medicine, as we here know, that they can do wonders. I seriously doubt you will be blind before your demise. Just don't miss any of your eye examinations when they are due.

Harry-

I really should have explained Joe's blindness. It wasn't from glaucoma. He had a stroke in his retinal artery. Sorry if I scared you.

The drops work well.

Harry,

My wife has had this problem for fifteen years. Drops every night before bed and no vision loss at all.

This is very treatable. You will be fine.

I think I read in a post long long ago that you had mentioned that Joe had a stroke in his eye and it blinded him in that eye....Thank You ever so much for the encouraging words though, as I feel alot better now, but as I had said before, I could deal with going deaf, but I couldn't deal with going blind....The doctor has put reassuring words to me also...thank god. :D :D :D :D Harrybaby:D :D :D

One of the best pieces of news I have heard recently. Have a glass of wine to celebrate.

Congratulations Harry!
As I remember, you're a rum man, aren't you?;)
Anyway, drink up!:p :p

Harry that is really good news. Be sure to get your eyes checked every time it is due.

I had cataract surgery - both eyes. Then one day I discovered I had trouble reading - dr did a procedure called YAG and now I am ok again. If anyone has had cataracts and then develops trouble reading, I will explain the YAG procedure if y'all want to know. Apparently cataract implants sometimes cloud up in there.

Rum or Whiskey...I am Irish...LOL

I am severely diabetic, so they automatically check me once a year, but it IS strange that everyone in my family pretty much have bad eyes, and my little brother and I have really never had eye trouble until I recently had to start wearing glasses....must be due to the fact that I am about to enter my 4th decade of life......Thanks for the support Hensy...I wish I could git my buns down to FLA and give you a big hug....Harrybaby:D :D :D :D
