Beautiful. Why does the saying about big boys and their toys come to mind? I'm happy you share your pics, I love looking at them and sometimes reading you describe them is even better

Indulge me. What did you get? Specs man, specs!

An important disclaimer, followed by specs. From a technical standpoint, I am a dunce. Before buying I check out reviews and opinions of others, and some sample pictures. This lens was described as fairly versatile, and great for portraits. This was important for me, as I am gaining acceptance among the Jemez people, and have had a chance to take some very unusual and striking photos. The time may yet come when I can share some of these pictures.

Ross: I pulled this from one of the reviews. I would love to know what you think.

AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED Major Features

Lightweight, compact design comparable in size to a dedicated wide-angle lens

Extremely useful range, with a 35mm [135] equivalent of 25.5-82.5mm

Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements minimize chromatic aberration, providing higher resolution and superior contrast
Three aspherical lens elements minimize distortion, especially at the periphery, for superior optical performance

Nikon's exclusive Silent Wave Motor (SWM) delivers quiet, swift autofocus with superior accuracy

The rounded, 9-blade diaphragm opening makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural

All elements are made of environment-friendly glass

M/A and M modes allow rapid switching between AF and MF operation

Internal Focusing (IF) design for smoother focusing and great body balance

G-type Nikkor lenses have no aperture ring, so operation is easy and virtually mistake-free because the aperture does not have to be set to minimum

Lens mount fitted with rubber ring that is resistant to dust and drops of water

New bayonet-type Lens Hood HB-31 (supplied) greatly reduces stray light
Soft lens case CL-1120 supplied

There are a lot of specs at the bottom of this page.

Dennis,
you know if Canon makes the same lens & how it compares in price?

Hooray!! You got your lens!!!!!!!!!

I do see an improved sharpness. Have fun with the black and white, too ... that will show a huge difference, I suspect.

Can't wait to see through your eyes! Wait for the right light!!

Happy seeing!

Marguerite

I have a Canon AE 1 program and when I was working and had money to blow, I started getting into getting different lenses and filters. Kind of stupid for me to do because I've never been able to compose a great shot in my life to save my soul.

I'm sure Canon has something similar. Just go to their website and start looking.

Here is Canon's lens PDF almost 12MB, so don't do this on dial up!

http://www.amazon.com/Canon-EF-S-17-55mm-Lens-Cameras/dp/B000EW8074 I'm going to lose my lunch after looking at the price.
