Well,
I finally found a Dr that said "yes, he can fix me" and answered all my questions the right way! He has had lots of experience with radiated hearts and he said that if he didn't think he could do it, he wouldn't because of the risks so......Oct. 9 I get another chance at getting older! :D

:) I will be sporting 2 On-X valves in the Aortic & Mitral valve positions and a Tricuspid repair. If the staff at Emory Crawford Long is half as good as the ones in Dr. Lattouf's office, I'll be in great hands. They were very quick to answer all my questions with good thorough answers and letting me know what to expect.

 Dr. Lattouf was 'impressed' with my knowledge of what he was saying and knowing what questions to ask and I informed him that I learned it all from my friends at VR.com! :D He said "It must be a great place to have so much information" and I told him it was a bunch of people that had been through this too in one way or another. ;)

I want to Thank all of you for your time, your knowledge and your patience with me while I've asked alot of questions and read alot of your previous posts. I'm sure I will have more questions as time gets closer but I wanted to let you all know I truly appreciate your help. I would have been lost today if it hadn't been for all of you.

Wishing everyone good health,
Sheila

Sheila,

Great news and thanks for letting us know. It sounds like you are in capable hands and have some good communication going which is important.

Please keep us posted.

Oh, Sheila, I am weeping with joy for you. October 9 is such a good day--the birthday of one of my two oldest friends, my eldest niece and my best friend's daughter. (And look! You've reminded me to send cards, too!:D ) October 9 is a very good day. Congratulations.

sheila - welcome to the On-X club! I had one put in three months ago and I'm feeling pretty darn good. Good luck to you! They're supposed to last for 100 years. I bought the extended warranty just in case.

Congratulations! I'm glad you've set the date for your new life to begin. Will there be anyone that can post for you after surgery so we know what a success it was right away!:D

That's great news! Glad to hear you found a surgeon in the Atlanta area that has experience and that you are comfortable with. Emory is a great hopsital and you will be in good hands. Let me know if you need anything. I'm only 30 minutes from Emory. As a matter of fact, I will be there Oct. 11th for my 6 month Post Op check up :)

Great news!!!

Great news!!!

I am so glad that you found someone capable - with whom you feel so comfortable and so positive. I imagine that feeling of confidence in you doc takes away SO much anxiety!!

I felt so confident in my meeting with the surgeon as well - all because of my reading here. It really helps doesn't it!!?

Best of luck to you. Can't wait to hear your great news after the big event!!!!!;)

That's great! I felt so sorry for you when I read your other post about all the doctors who said they couldn't do it.

By the way, up here in Canada, October 9 (this year) is Thanksgiving. I am sure you will have a lot to give thanks for after your operation!!!

:) Thanks everyone for your kind words and joy for me! I go up to Atlanta on the 5th for some other tests & Pre-Op on the Friday the 6th. I'll have the weekend up there with my hubby, my 2 sons & my sister and I intend to enjoy myself as much as possible!:D

Great news sheila! One question for you, are you going to be in the on-x tests? I know an Emory Surgeon is head of the US tests on the On-x valve and its possibilites of not needing coumadin.
I am happy to see Emory turned out to be your solution, I can only hope fore you that your experience there is as good as mine has been.

:( Nope, I can't participate in the On-X study Dewayne. Dr. Lattouf mentioned his 'interesting study' to me but since I'm getting 2 valves replaced I don't qualify. He explained what the 'interesting study' was after we had talked about everything else. I would have loved to join in and maybe help others in the future!
Emory looked like it was a great place so I'm excited to go back and get this over & done with!:D I hope I come out of it like you!

So glad you have your date and are going to be in such good hands- best wishes and prayers coming your way, Sheila.

Sheila,

Sending you lots of positive thoughts and best wishes as you prepare for your surgery. so glad to hear you finally found a surgeon who listened and can help you.

You and your family will be in my prayers!

Take Care!
Susie
