Not sure if this is the right forum to post this in or not, but....

Just wanted to let everyone know here that I have a date for AVR surgery. I mentioned it in that other LOOONG thread that I started in the 'valve selection' forum too. The date is tuesday april 13th, and Dr. Marc Moon at Washington University St. Louis/Barnes Hospital is the surgeon! I go in for pre-op the day before on 4/12...

I have a huge range of emotion going on now! I feel scared one minute, and almost excited (I know that's weird) and anxious about it the next minute

I've noticed a LOT of people here go to The Cleveland Clinic (which is expected), but I'm wondering if anyone on here is in St. Louis and/or gone to Washington U/Barnes Hospital here? I know it's very reputable, and I've gone there for years. just curious..

thanks - wish me luck!
Eddie

I get those same emotions a hundred times a day. Happy then anxious and then over again.

Eddie,
Congratulations on the date. As soon as I knew the when, I was excited too (go figure) and stayed that way right up to game time. I think there's something in my personality that enjoyed the challenge, the folks here had covered all my concerns with reassurances and I was hellbent on getting the surgery and recovery behind me so I could get back to my real life. This Wed. will be 4 weeks and I can truly say that except for lifting limitations, I'm almost there. We'll go the distance with you and look forward to celebrating your successful surgery in the near future.

Eddie:

Good luck!

My niece lives in Brentwood, is 9 p.m. news producer for the Fox station near downtown St. Louis.
I visited for almost a week in October and was impressed with how many good-sized hospitals you are blessed with there.

Congratulations on your date! It sure is a rollercoaster of emotions. You will get to the point that you just want it over with.
I don't know any Dr in your area, I am having my surgery at Brigham & Women's in Boston. Good Luck.

Wash U is my alma mater. Go Bears! :D Their med school is consistently rated among the top 5 - this year they were tied for 2nd place with Johns Hopkins, second only to Harvard. You are in good hands. For heart surgery, they are ranked 10th in the nation. Cleveland is rated #1 for heart surgery, so that is why they get so much hoopla. Good luck with your surgery!

Can't help you with the information on the St. Louis information, but glad you got your date. Once I got mine things seemed to start happening fast and before you know it was over (I'm 5 days post-op now).

Wash U 10th in the country? I'll take that... :) the emotion roller-coaster continues. I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt like that. I thought it was very strange for me to feel excited about getting my chest cut open!

as far as valve choice - probably won't decide until the week before. still doing research, getting opinions, etc. but right now I am leaning toward the bovine tissue valve.

I will keep you posted!
