I bought the American Heart Association Low Salt Cookbook at Barnes and Nobles, it makes my trip to the grocery store less depressing.

And it's so easy my husband can use it :p he has been cooking dinner since surgery. Tonight he's making pizza. We found a low sodium sauce and on my side just a little cheese. I miss double cheese pizza but the saturated fat is insane, giving up cheese is painful for me. The soy cheese has even more sodium than regular cheese. What am I to do?

use "fresh" mozarella instead of the regular one. It is softer, but still melts, and it usually has way less sodium than the regular cheese. Check out the label, though to make sure.

I find mozarella cheese has the less sodium Michelle. Nancy mentioned another type cheese at one time that had less sodium but I can't recall which......perhaps she can direct you to one of her great low-sodium sites!

You mentioned you found a low-sodium sauce.....what is it called? I make my own tomato base sauces for spaghetti, pizzas, etc., using no salt can tomatoes & tomato paste.

My pizzas turn out to be more vegetarian type pizzas because I reluctantly omit the pepperoni, sausage, ham, olives & use more bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, ground beef. They still come out very good.....beats the store bought anytime! :)

Interesting; thanks!

The pizza sauce is called L. E. Roselli's pizza sauce. It has 150 mg per 1/4 serving. It's really good too. I tried making pasta sauce with the no salt diced and stewed tomatoes and it sucked. But maybe as I get used to the taste of low sodium stuff it might be better. I'll have to try again. Oh and the Mrs. Dash Garlic and Herb seasoning is awesome, I just bought that and I love it.
