<heavy sigh>

Well, I've been pestering my surgeon's assistant daily since Thusday trying to get some answers. Yesterday she said he was heading to a meeting and then to the "viewing room" to look at my echo tape and I would have an answer today. I called again late this afternoon and he was on the phone. He called me back and said that the echo tape wouldn't play correctly (what a let down). I asked if he had seen the echo report (he had) and I asked if he could make a recommendation from the report. We ended up talking for awhile, and based on the report he felt that surgery was the best option. He said there were some drugs we could try that may help for awhile if I wanted to try them, but there was no guarantee that they would make a difference and surgery was inevitable down the road anyway. My latest echo shows that my left ventricle is at the upper limits of normal, my tricuspid valve now has moderate regurg with PA pressures estimated at 50-60mmhg. He also said that I am a viable candidate for any type of valve including the Ross Procedure (which is my 1st choice).

Since it was so late in the day his assistant was gone for the day, but he said he would be able to do it as soon as a couple of weeks and to call his assistant back tomorrow to set the date (at this point reality smacked me in the face...lol). I am having a cath done here in Nashville on March 3rd to check my coronary arteries and will probably schedule the surgery for 2 weeks out from there (maybe St. Patrick's day).

Wow, it just dawned on me after all this waiting...this surgery is really going to happen...and soon!

Congratulations........I think?

You certainly want to get this taken care of ASAP if your ventricle is already at the upper limits of normal. You need not be waiting!
Now that reality has smacked you up side the noggin, be sure to call tomorrow and get the ball rolling. Let us know the actual date so we can get you on the calendar.

That reality smack does a number on ya huh? I still remember how I felt and Johnny Stephens said it best. I'll have to dig that quote up and post it. I'm going searching, be back shortly.

Johnnies quote to me when I got my date!
Ross, I completely understand your feelings, I felt the same way. Before I had a date, I was all gung-ho to get it nailed down so I could get on with it. Then, once I actually got it, it was "well, er, ok, I guess." I felt like somebody was calling my bluff, LOL.

Bryan,

It's good that you have a date. I know I was planning on having surgery at about 70, so when I talked to the cardiologist and was told that I needed surgery in months, I was dumbfounded.

Sometimes at 7 months post-op I still find all of this a little hard to believe!

Bryan,

Your persistence is paying off. That proactive behavior and postitive attitude will serve you well in the soming weeks. I know it sorts of feels like leaning into the punch, but........ as you said .... heavy sigh.

Hang in there.

Well gee Bryan... when I read the title of your post I was kinda hoping your "date" was going to be some cute, leggy, blonde! :D Somehow I've got a feeling this probably isn't what your surgeon looks like...

Meanwhile, I guess it's a case of "..be careful what you wish for..". Ultimately I know you know this is very good news, it's just a shame it doesn't quite come with those same feelings of elation that perhaps being told you'd won first division in the lottery does  .

Just remember we're all here for you.

Cheers
Anna : )

Bryan,

Having a date (Not Anna's kind! ;) ) will make it al real. Good luck on the cath and doing the final scheduling. Keep us informed about where you'll be and when it's all going to happen.

Ross,

That quote is perfect! I felt the same way...like he called my bluff when he said "how about 2 weeks?"

Anna,

I like brunettes too! :D

Thanks for keeping me smiling through all of this. Humor seems to help me more than anything else when I'm nervous or sad about something. I've been watching alot of Seinfeld's and stand up on the comedy channel lately.
