Andrea

I saw my cardio a couple days ago but forgot to ask him this one as I had 50 questions...

I am one of those few and weird people who cant burp ... at all. I noticed that I almost look pregnant lately and feel very bloated all of the time. I actually bought a maternity tank top today as when I tried on the regular ones if they fit my top half they were tight on my belly! How embarrassing! I'm not really passing gas much but I do sometimes do this funny gurgly thing mostly when I breath in. It feels like a very tiny amount of air slowly creeping up. Almost sounds like my tummy growling.

Has anyone else had a bloating gassy problem this far after surgery? If so what can be done? I dont know if I can take gas-x or if it would even work. I think sometimes I might be so bloated that maybe thats why I sometimes still feel short of breath.

Someone poke me with a pin so I can pop!!! :D

After these posts I'm gonna be too embarrassed to ever go to a reunion LOL

Andrea,
First off you would never have to be embarressed at any reunion.
We are all survivors and that's what it's all about.
That sounds like it could be a number of things including gall bladder, etc.
If you are on Coumadin be careful which over the counter product you use. I was told to stick with Mylanta because it is not aspirin based as some other products are.
It comes in the liquid form as well as gas releiving chewable tablets.
Have you dicussed this with your family doctor ?

Hi Andrea,

Please know that I am only asking this out of concern for you. Have you had an echo since your surgery? I had all of your symptoms. Three weeks post op went back with Tamponade. Can you sleep in a flat positon without labored breathing?

Play it safe and get an echo.

Keep us posted.
PS. Liquid Riopan Plus was recommended for indigestion. No problems with the Coumadin.

I did have an echo 9 days post op and everything was fine. I can usually lay down ok other than feeling bloated. I will check with my docs office but I think you guys seem to know even more than him sometimes lol.

Hi Andrea-

I was so worried about you when you spoke about this same problem a couple of days ago, and was happy when you came back on the board and told us that your doc wasn't too worried about the situation and that the Lasix had taken care of the problem.

But, gosh-- the same thing has reared its ugly head and is giving you problems again. If you have had to purchase maternity clothing to be comfortable because your stomach area is so swollen, then it is time to be very proactive with finding out just what the problem is. That doesn't seem normal and you shouldn't have to suffer with this unknown situation any longer.

If your cardiologist can't get to the bottom of it, please call your Primary Care Physician and get a diagnosis.

When things are out of the ordinary, it means that something is going on that needs medical care. I hope you can get help for the problem.

hi andrea!
i agree with nancy... even if it ends up being nothing serious, it's not something you want to take a chance with.
hope all turns out well.
please let us know.
all the best, sylvia

I have the opposite problem...I burp too much..but PCP calls it aerophagia..Swallowing of too much air.. However, I know that drinking a Sprite, Seven-up should give you a really good burp..:p Bonnie

Call the doctor or go into the ER. they will give you a chest xray. You need to know if you are retaining fluid and you need to know for sure. Please let us know what to do.

Doing ok just feel about 6 months pregnant lol. My Doc said it was from the Indocin I am on. That it can cause gas and gastrointestinal problems but that he wants me to stay on it with a smaller dose. He said Indocin can cause some water retention as well but that I need to be on it for awhile.

Andrea - do a search on the net - just type in Indocin and read all about it for yourself. That way you can check out what the doctor says. I check out the meds and all side effects.
