There is a new study out that lists life expectancy for Americans by county. Here is an excerpt from one artical I read.

Although income clearly affects longevity, "It's not the high-income urban populations like Westchester County, New York, that do the best," says Murray, "but the rural Midwest populations." The highest county-wide life expectancy in the United States (barring race) is found in Stearns County, Minnesota, where the average life span for women is 83--equal to that of women in Japan.

I was born in Stearns County, MN. where my two grandmothers lived to be 89 and 91. My grandpas lived to be 83 and 91 too. I wonder if it makes a difference that I now live in neighboring Sherburne Co.?

I believe they said that MN as a whole came in second behind the state of Hawaii.

if you get to feelin poorly, maybe you best move on back to Stearns.:D :p :D

Mother was born in Key West, moved in her teens to Miami. She also lived to be 91 - my dad was born on a farm in Ga and he, too, lived to be 91. Go figure.

Jean, as I read the name of your thread I thought it was about livers...you know, chicken, beef,...the edible kind! I was glad to read that wasn't the case. I think if I were you I'd just lay hold to always being included in the Stearns county stats!

Hey Jean,
Just think of all the karaoke you and Ray will be able to do.:D
I saw this on the news the other night and the rural counties in Colorado were way up there also.

Congratulations Jean!
I, on the other hand, live halfway between two of the worst counties--St. Louis and Pemiscott in SE Missouri!

Because your air is clean Jean!

We live in a smog puff. The best was heading north to visit a relative. Could actually see the stars not the smog. 30 miles makes a difference.

We are heading for greener pastures......that's for sure!:) Where I can use my telescope with ease;) :D :D

I read "livers" as the body organ. Made me laugh! I'm thinking Wow - I've never heard of people having longer livers than normal.:)

Ann- you're quicker than me. I didn't catch on until I read the post!

Sorry Guys, that was my attempt at humor!

Actually, after thinking about it, I recall some years back a study that was done on how many bars, (saloons, pubs etc). there were in the US compared to population by county.

It seems to me Stearns county rated pretty high on that list too...so I'm thinking that one reason for their longevity is that although their livers may not be "long", they may be well-pickled for better preservation!
