Birky

A week ago we moved a lot of furniture at home to make some changes where the new computer is going. I unfortuntately did a lot of it myself since I am so stubborn about getting things done. Anyway, I have now popped a round ball between my incision and where the drain tubes were. Called the surgeons office and have to go next week. They think it could be an incisional hernia. All I remember is that I got a sharp pain and then this shows up. At first I thought maybe it was an extra **** or a misplaced pregnancy. Got to keep my sense of humor or I will go nuts if I am not already. Good way to start a week.

It's like the size of a 50 cent piece when it is sticking out. Feels like a soft ball. Doesn't really hurt now but it did when it happened. I have been such a Willy Winer lately. Was hoping for a year without medical bills. Thanks for responding,

Hello Birky,

It is SO O O O tempting to try to do more than we can or should when we begin to feel a little bit better / stronger,
BUT there always seems to be a price attached to those 'transgressions'. Hope your doc's can sort it out and find an easy fix.

That's a new one for me: an incisional hernia. But Marcia, it isn't always good to have a "first" on VR.com. Ask Glenda.

It must feel weird, as the incision area has a lot of out-of-tune nerve endings as it is. At 14 weeks out, mine still feels a bit odd to the touch - even without an alien attempting to emerge.

I sincerely hope they have a quick fix for it. Please try to allow yourself to heal. Have family members tie you to the couch in the living room while they work in the den, etc.

Best wishes,

O-o-o-o, Marcia!

I have kind of a little pocket of poofiness in the area I think you are describing also; let us know what your doctor says, okay? No pain there for me, though. I don't know how long it has been there; I try hard to ignore my scar.

Marsha, Marsha, Marsha! Should you be lifting around on furniture? I'm sure one to talk. I over did and now I'm so paying for it. I hope you find out what's wrong real quick and you get better. Please be careful! !

Bump

Bump

Saw the Cardiac surgeon yesterday and it is an incisional hernia. He wants to do the repair since it is where the drain tubes were. If I don't have it fixed, it could get bigger and sorer. Decided to have the repair versus worrying about it. Day surgery but can't work for a week. Said that I would be sore for a couple of days. No lifthing. He was so busy yesterday, running 2 hours late. Lots of screaming babies. He is booked solid into September. We will address the coumadin issue when his nurse calls me back with dates, etc.

Marcia!!! Big bummer. It's been a long time since you had surgery - I'm STUNNED that this happened to you. I thought at this point that you could do mostly anything (short of heavy weight-lifting due to valve).

I'm so sorry. Be really careful.

Marcia - Thanks for the update. Hope you get relief soon and that all goes well. The funny poofy area that I have is centered about two inches above the bottom of my scar but I'll see the cardiologist mid-August and ask him about it then. It doesn't hurt but it looks a little funny. Take care.

Gave yourself an alien huh? Might as well join Nancy's Joe and I in the alien club. One day they will hatch and take over the world!

Speaking of Aliens.

Joe was having an exam (regular checkup). As he was laying down on the exam table, his hernia (at the diaphragm position) came popping out. I hadn't seen it in a while, and said, "Look Joe, your Alien is sticking out" I couple of embarassed looks later, and then we all laughed.

I guess no one was quite sure about which Alien I was talking about.

I think it is an alien baby. Dr. said that I might have had a small hernia where the drain tubes were and something came together then it came apart. Make sense? I asked him again to take my belly and move it up to my upper chest and expand the girls. Not his specialty. Thanks for all your responses. Who would have thought that 16 mos. later this would happen. I have a very strange body and according to my hubby, my mind at times too.
